About The Position

PBF Energy Inc. (NYSE:PBF) is one of the largest independent refiners in North America, operating through its subsidiaries, oil refineries and related facilities. We are seeking a talented Lead Process Engineer to join our team as a pivotal member that would play a key role here at PBF Energy. This role would be located in our Chalmette Refinery in Chalmette, LA in the greater New Orleans area. The Lead Process Engineer provides engineering support for assigned areas and direction to Unit Process Engineers. In addition, this position will be required to lead complex refinery troubleshooting and technical planning efforts for the Refinery and ensure all assigned Unit Process Engineers are capable of supporting the Refinery Business Teams.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering
  • 7+ years minimum relevant experience in Process Engineering
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentorship ability.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Capable of interfacing with multiple departments to drive and steward common goals.
  • Strong hands-on commitment balanced with the ability to delegate and let the Unit Process Engineer be the “go-to person”.
  • Passionate attitude with an innovative mind frame.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise a team of six Process Engineers and seasonal Cooperative Education and Interns.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams and serve as a technical leader.
  • Mentor and support Process Engineers, including the Co-Ops/Interns, in day-to-day and strategic tasks.
  • Ensure the continuity and maintenance of key monitoring programs, such as long-term monitoring, material balances, and kinetic modeling.
  • Focus on refinery optimization, especially across multiple areas and Business Teams.
  • Interface with Business Teams to ensure the Process Engineers are meeting the needs of the business and take the lead on priorities/projects that are outside of the Process Engineers’ abilities.
  • Understand operating constraints and economic aspects of assigned process areas.
  • Intervene in troubleshooting when needs extend beyond the Business Team’s knowledge or Process Engineer’s experience level and/or involves multiple units.
  • Support unit process engineers with turnaround preparation, execution, and post turnaround follow up.
  • Administrative responsibilities, including employee performance evaluations and Workday authority.
  • Work with Process Engineering Manager to identify and budget employee training to fulfill knowledge and skill advancement.
  • Work with the Process Engineering Manager on recruitment (both full-time and Co-Ops).
  • Support incident investigations.
  • Perform preliminary scoping and evaluation of improvement projects.
