About The Position

Crossroads Community Center is hiring a Preschool Lead teacher. Responsible for providing an inclusive, safe and developmentally appropriate preschool program. The teacher would follow City of Bellevue safety standards, policies, and procedures. This is a fun, creative, rewarding part-time position, in a fabulous classroom with supportive center staff and a preschool assistant. The Preschool Lead Teacher possess education, experience working with preschool aged children, exceptional people skills, flexibility, the ability to work under pressure, stay on task, teach young children kindergarten readiness skills, and can adjust to change. Furthermore, the qualified applicant will be responsible, reliable, a self-starter, be patient, enjoy working with this age group, prepared to handle accidents and emergencies at anytime.

Requirements

  • Applicant has 3 years’ experience working in a classroom setting, preferably with preschool age children.
  • Applicant has a thorough knowledge of programs and services to which they are assigned.
  • Interpersonal contacts will extend beyond the work group to patrons and the public.
  • Public contact is ongoing, working relations are established with parents, caregivers, and patrons.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing to children, parents, and City staff.
  • Experience and/or training are desired, specific to the responsibilities and competencies of this role, or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skill, and abilities.
  • Must successfully pass a Criminal Background check.
  • Knowledge of child development and early education theories and practices.
  • Ability to provide safe and appropriate activities for children.
  • The ability to work in a busy and occasionally noisy environment.
  • First Aid, CPR, AED, or other specialized training will be required.
  • High school diploma
  • Early Childhood Education, or a combination of ECE knowledge, training and experience working in a preschool setting.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for planning and implementing a age-appropriate inclusive pre-school program, for a diverse group of preschool age children.
  • Plan and implement activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of the children in the program.
  • Always provide supervision of the children.
  • Provide adequate equipment and activities.
  • Ensure equipment and the facility is clean, well maintained, and safe always.
  • Report any concerns to coordinator or Center supervisor.
  • Provide weekly and monthly schedule of activities to coordinator.
  • Develop culturally appropriate programs and activities.
  • Develop activities that introduce math and literacy concepts.
  • Be familiar with emergency procedures.
  • Prepare, create, and/or adapt instructional materials for children.
  • Manage transitions (going from one activity to the next).
  • Encourage children to use words to resolve conflicts.
  • Encourage children to take turns and share.
  • Provide various experiences and activities for children including songs, games, and storytelling.
  • Build children’s self-esteem.
  • Establish routines and provide positive guidance.
  • Provide a safe and secure inclusive environment for children to feel comfortable.
  • Clearly and effectively communicate in a manner that children understand.
  • Observe children and make notes of progress to share with parents.
  • Keep parents informed of program expectations, program activities and their child’s progress.
  • Provide learning materials in the classroom that respect individual differences, foster student achievement, and maintain a supportive and inclusive environment.
  • Work with pre-school assistant giving guidance to set up, clean up the room, preparing the next day.
  • Lead circle time, story time
  • Lead children into the gym, overseeing children with assistant.
  • Encourages creativity of children and helps foster a positive environment in the classroom.
  • Performs related duties, as assigned.
