About The Position

GE Grid Solutions, part of the GE Vernova portfolio, is seeking a Lead Power System Engineer to provide technical expertise in the design of electrification solutions for EHV/HV Substations. This role involves performing power system studies and calculations using specialized software, supporting project execution, sales, and business development. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering including power systems and power electronics subjects.
  • Proven professional experience and technical expertise in the field of power system engineering.
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience of network or transient studies for conventional electric-energy generation / FACTS / renewable energy / inverter-based power systems in offshore wind, industrial, utility substations and grid interconnects.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 20%, including internationally.

  • Professional engineering license and willingness to review and seal work under supervision.
  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering including power systems and power electronics subjects with proven professional experience and technical expertise.
  • Knowledge of North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) compliance requirements and/or ISOs' interconnection or transmission planning guidelines.
  • Strong knowledge on medium high voltage substation North American standards & guidelines (IEEE & ANSI standards and codes such as the NEC and the NESC.), local grid codes and related equipment.
  • Ability to engineer design packages when no clear customer specification is provided.
  • Working knowledge of applicable design calculations for primary & secondary equipment such as battery sizing & DC system component selection, power transformer and circuit breaker selection, circuit protection, control and power cable selection and rating, bus, fittings, insulator, and arrector selection, ground grid design, and lightning protection.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise in the design of electrification solutions for EHV/HV Substations.
  • Responsible for all power system studies and calculations utilizing power system software.
  • Independently perform in-depth system studies including Main Circuit Parameters, Load Flow, Reactive Power Capability and Compensation, Power Factor Study, Short Circuit Study /Combined Short Circuit Ratio (CSCR) Study, Transient Switching and Insulation Coordination Study, Harmonic Performance/Stability Study, Transient Ride Through and Dynamic Performance Studies (DPS), Overall System Performance Assessment Study, Low Voltage Ride Through (LVRT) and High Voltage Ride Through (HVRT) Study, Arc Flash Study, and Cable Selection and Sizing.
  • Integrate dedicated studies for systems utilizing combined AC power sources (conventional generations, AC-BESS, turbines, and renewables).
  • Utilize frequency and time-domain simulation tools like PSCAD, PSS/E, ETAP, DigSilent PowerFactory for system studies.
  • Provide guidance, analysis, and reports in a clear and succinct manner to customers, project teams, and stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance and coordinate engineering tasks to meet project/tender requirements.
