Acts as a lead and participates in the work of a small group of journey-level workers of the plumbing trade and other assigned staff engaged in installing, maintaining, modifying, and repairing a variety of plumbing systems and related equipment at a college. Schedules and oversees the work of a small group of journey-level workers and other assigned staff engaged in performing installation, replacement, maintenance, and repair on plumbing systems, equipment, appliances, controls and fixtures. Determines most efficient work procedures and techniques for assigned staff to ensure timely completion of plumbing projects, and makes sure that safety standards and procedures are followed. Installs, replaces, maintains, and repairs plumbing systems, equipment, appliances, controls and fixtures such as dish and clothes washing machines, vacuum breakers, backflow devices, gas appliance safety controls, steam tables, plumbing fixtures, drains, sinks, sumps, circulatory pumps, water heaters, and showers including water, gas, and waste system installations. Installs, maintains, and repairs gas piping systems for space heating. Installs, maintains, and repairs lawn-sprinkler systems, including automatic, semi-automatic, and manually operated types. Installs, maintains, and repairs air and gas welding systems. Maintains and repairs automatic fire-sprinkler systems. Surveys gas safety devices and other plumbing equipment which may need repair or replacement. Attends to trouble calls for emergency repairs to plumbing systems and equipment. Safely operates tools and equipment used in the plumbing trade. Maintains plumbing hand and power tools and equipment to ensure their safe and efficient operation. Maintains shop area and supplies in a safe, clean, and orderly condition. Estimates job costs, prepares material lists and job records, and maintains an inventory of supplies and tools for assigned area. Provides supervisor with technical input on plumbing work concerning planned construction and work projects in progress. Assists in planning and developing modifications to existing plumbing systems. Inspects facilities for maintenance and safety problems related to plumbing systems and equipment. Assists in the inspection of plumbing work performed by outside contractors. Assists in developing job specifications, diagrams, and blueprints related to plumbing work. Provides training to staff assigned to unit. May schedule and oversee the work of other building trade workers assigned to unit. Performs related duties as assigned.
