Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Current Pharmacy technician certification from the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.

Nice To Haves

  • One to two years of IV and/or chemotherapy admixture experience
  • IV / chemotherapy certification

Responsibilities

  • Report and work only under the authority of a state registered pharmacist in all activities required to provide optimal patient care.
  • Prepare and distribute all intravenous medications (including chemotherapy, cytotoxic drugs, investigational chemotherapy, biologics and supportive care medications).
  • Maintain daily patient records and information through the applicable computer and manual systems.
  • Perform or engage in pharmacy activities not expressly designated to a licensed pharmacist.
  • Prepare oral and intravenous medications for administration under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Assist in leading a team of Pharmacy Technicians with their daily duties.
  • Procure and distribute prescription medication orders per physician and pharmacist instruction.
  • Maintain and generate patient reports and records through the applicable computer system.
  • Maintain appropriate investigational medication records, as assigned.
  • Maintain adequate medication inventories and pharmacy supplies, including ordering, receiving, unpacking, recording, and storing all medications and pharmacy supplies.
  • Contribute to the effective operation of the pharmacy department, which requires daily and accurate medication computer order entries, accurate recording of patient credits and charges, and all patient information.
  • Conduct inventory of all medication as required.
  • Responsible for daily filing and orderly maintenance of paperwork.
  • Record and maintain freezer, refrigerator, and room temperature monitoring logs.
  • Demonstrate acceptable oral and written communication skills and courteous telephone operating skills.
  • Organize and prioritize work assignments.
  • Maintain current technician certification by completing all competence/skill assessment testing and attend continuing education programs.
  • Provide a true and correct copy of renewal certificate.
