About The Position

Atlantic Health Newton Medical Center is seeking a Full-Time LEAD Patient Transporter. The required hours are 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, including rotating weekends and holidays based on operational needs. The starting rate is $20.05/hr.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or GED/Equivalent required.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English.
  • Ability to work well under time constraints.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat and stands for long periods of time, bends, lifts, pushes and pulls up to 50 lbs.
  • Prior hospital-based patient transport experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • CPR certification preferred.
  • 5 years of experience as a patient transporter or relevant role preferred.
  • Prior hospital-based patient transport experience in a lead or supervisory role preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and guides transport staff; provides operational orientation and monitors application of operational policies, procedures, and service; assesses volume/backlog status and reprioritizes and/or reassigns transport requests to optimize operational and service performance.
  • Assists with maintaining team member schedules and staffing coverage.
  • Cleans, maintains, and operates transport equipment and operates elevators to move or escort patients/visitors to and from various hospital areas, as directed, following established operating policies and procedures.
  • Reports any changes in patient status/condition during transport; removes and reports defective equipment to supervisor.
  • Assists clinical staff with lifting and moving patients for transfer and transport; ensures oxygen tanks required for transport contain sufficient oxygen and are safely secured for transport.
  • Cleans transportation equipment according to Infection Control protocols; confirms patient readiness for transport and need for appropriate equipment and ensures that equipment is ready and available.
  • Recognizes cardio-pulmonary distress symptoms, sends for code team, and provides interim basic life support for airway management and cardiac arrests until code team arrives.
  • Uses patient transport tracking system to enter and receive patient information; track patient movement; assign acceptance and closure. Support daily operations and patient throughput management.
  • Picks-up and delivers materials and equipment, as directed, to various offices and departments within the Hospital according to related operating policies and procedures.
  • Transfers deceased patients to the hospital morgue in accordance with operating policies and procedures.
  • Assists with monitoring department performance, quality, and safety metrics.
  • Provide coaching and feedback regarding team member performance.
  • Coordinates activities of Patient Transport team members.
  • Assists with onboarding and training of new team members.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
