About The Position

Life-Saving Surgical Pathology: Pathologists' Assistants Make It Possible. At NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, our Surgical Pathology Laboratory is one of the busiest in New York. Within our state-of-the-art lab, we maintain a high level of clinical interaction and enable expedited specimen processing. In turn, we deliver life-saving results to a growing volume of patients faster than most hospitals in the area. In our state-of the-art gross room you will dissect and examine all types of surgical specimens from small biopsies to large complex specimens. In addition, you will oversee the daily operations of the Gross Room and maintain the daily schedule of personnel to ensure the laboratory is adequately staffed for specimen volume and work flow. The Lead PA will oversee and participate in the technical operations, including QA/QC checks, system maintenance issues, accuracy of specimen processing and general sample troubleshooting. Furthermore, you will asses specimen volume and complexity, and triage specimens among cutting room personnel, technicians and residents. Act as a reference source for Gross Room supervisor, Residents, Pathologists’ Assistants and Pathology Technicians for specimen grossing. Channel your commitment to superior quality through participating in QA/QC concerns, which relate to result data delivery and patient care, and investigate nonconforming events. Participates in the orientation and training of staff. Acts as contact person for internal and external calls. Tracks and responds to questions relating to specimen grossing. Identify and resolve all workflow and quality control issues related to gross and accession room activities by utilizing Advance Bar & Tracking Systems (AB&T) as well as cutting edge technology such as M-Modal Fluency Direct, our voice recognition system as well as the APERIO LV1, for telepathology functionality at the David H. Koch Ambulatory Center.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience working as a Pathologists' Assistant
  • ASCP Certification
  • NYS Pathologists’ Assistant license, or Clinical Lab Technologist License or Histotechnologist License
