About The Position

As we seek to launch new congregations in Southern California in the future, we are looking for a Congregation Lead Pastor who will shepherd the flock, serve as a missionary in their city, equip God's people for ministry, and foster generosity and stewardship.

Requirements

  • High degree of integrity in personal and professional life
  • Excellent communication skills - verbal (confident and comfortable speaking in front of large groups), written, and relational
  • Demonstrated ministry leadership experience (+5 years preferred)
  • Experience in a church or para-church organization preferred
  • High degree of Bible literacy
  • Experience and knowledge in leading multiple teams
  • Love Jesus and call themselves Christians.
  • Embrace a high biblical standard of personal conduct and lifestyle.
  • Agree to and adhere to the church's statement of faith, leadership commitment, and position papers.
  • Work during Christmas Eve and Easter services.
  • Participate then facilitate Rooted once per ministry year.
  • Attend Mariners Church.

Nice To Haves

  • seminary degree is a plus
  • multi-site ministry experience is plus

Responsibilities

  • Pastor, encourage, protect, and inspire your congregation to follow Jesus and fearlessly change the world.
  • Ensure the congregation progresses through our “transformational loop” (worship services to groups to volunteering to outreach opportunities) so that the people are well-cared for, disciplined, and find joy in Jesus.
  • Perform pastoral duties such as weddings, funerals, baptisms and coaching/counseling for those in your congregation.
  • Be the lead missionary for your congregation in your community.
  • Cast the vision for reaching and serving your local community.
  • Work with the central Outreach Team to help your congregation meet needs across Southern California as well as build a customized strategy to reach your city.
  • Develop partnerships with city and neighborhood officials as well as nearby Mariners Outreach locations.
  • Lead and equip the staff and key leaders at the congregation to develop volunteers so that each ministry in your congregation can grow in a healthy way.
  • Work with the central teams to provide coaching, training, and best practices for all ministries.
  • Build a culture of generosity in your congregation.
  • Encourage giving as an act of obedience and an expression of love for God’s church.
  • Consistently, intentionally, and lovingly invite givers and prospective givers to take next steps in their generosity.
  • Lead your team to wisely steward the resources entrusted to the congregation.
