About The Position

This position provides emergency care at the scene of an accident or other emergency. Responsibilities involve preparation for response, response, delivery of care, transportation, documentation, and post response duties. Also attends to patients being transported by ambulance on non-emergency calls and is responsible for the patient's safety in route. Responsible for performing an initial assessment of the scene and patient including obtaining a brief targeted history and completing a physical exam. Recognizes and evaluates patients who require immediate attention and when necessary initiates emergency life saving treatment. Delivers and/or supervises the delivery of emergency patient care such as administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation, oxygen and resuscitation with an ambu bag. Intubates when necessary. Inserts IVs and administers medication according to physician order or ACLS protocol. Also may participate in life safety programs, community awareness programs, and other programs as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma General or GED General or Accredited Program
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ARC-ALS - Amer Red Cross Advanced Life Support or ACLS-I - ACLS - Instructor
  • BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor
  • PARA - Paramedic
  • GADL - Georgia Driver's License
  • Minimum 1 year as a Paramedic

  • Prepares for response, responds, delivers care, transports, documents, and performs post-response duties.

  • Performs an initial assessment of the scene and patient, including obtaining a brief targeted history and completing a physical exam.

  • Manages and supervises the activity of EMS personnel on their assigned shift in the absence of the EMS Supervisor, including station level activities, medical incident scenes, and scenes involving rescue.
  • Responds to and directs personnel on EMS calls and actively participates in the Incident Command System.
  • Accountable for properly training and supervising EMTs and Paramedics.
  • Responds to BLS and ALS calls in a timely manner.
  • Assists the Shift Captain in the daily operations of the shift.
  • Adheres to safety policies and procedures and acts in a safe manner at all times in less than safe conditions, including accident scenes or businesses and homes.
  • Acts within the appropriate guidelines and scope of practice for the Paramedic role, without operating outside of the scope without on-line medical direction from the ED physician.
  • Maintains accurate supply levels and does not use equipment for purposes other than intended.
  • Maintains vehicles in good working order and uses the vehicle with due regard.
  • Performs daily preventative maintenance checks.
  • Analyzes problems under pressure to identify underlying issues and determine a course of action for patient care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
