About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This is a part-time position with 12-hour varied shifts, totaling 24 scheduled weekly hours. The compensation range is $25.20 - $48.00 per hour, and the position may be eligible for a Sign-On Bonus. This is a non-union position. Lead Paramedics and Registered Nurses are responsible for providing advanced medical care to patients, requiring complex knowledge and skills for patient care and transportation. They may also assist and direct additional EMS Responders at the scene and during transport, acting as the key contact for EMS while on scene. The role involves supporting management and staff, monitoring productivity, tracking Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and assisting management with EMS Operations, including regulations, licensing, staffing, staff education, equipment maintenance, finance, and quality assurance. The Lead Paramedic and Registered Nurse will serve as a formal resource for EMS staff, assist with patient care in the receiving facility, and perform physical activities such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials, requiring considerable use of arms and legs and moving of the whole body. Paramedics must attend training to maintain national certification, state licensure, and stay updated on new developments. They will also provide a welcoming and educational environment for students and complete academic assessments. Work hours will vary depending on patient needs, potentially including overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • Paramedic: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Paramedic: A minimum of two years of experience as a paramedic in an Ambulance setting.
  • Paramedic: Must have a thorough knowledge of paramedic principles, practices and techniques.
  • Paramedic: Knowledge of how various equipment such as a monitor or defibrillator work and how to troubleshoot problems that may arise.
  • Paramedic: Must hold national registry status at a Paramedic level.
  • Paramedic: Depending on state requirements, individuals may need to have a state license.
  • Paramedic: Requires a Wisconsin Paramedic license.
  • Registered Nurse: Graduate from an accredited nursing program required, including, but not limited to, American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA).
  • Registered Nurse: Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state.
  • Requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Requires National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) Incident Command System (ICS)100, 200, and 700 completed.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License and have a good driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Paramedic: Associates Degree in Paramedic Technology or Paramedicine preferred.
  • Registered Nurse: Bachelor’s Degree in nursing preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or equivalent, advanced version for paramedics, International Trauma Life Support (ITLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) preferred depending on location.
  • Additional licensures as required depending upon state; Paramedic (PAR) Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced medical care to patients.
  • Provide patient transportation.
  • Assist and give direction to additional EMS Responders at the scene and/or during transport.
  • Act as the key contact for EMS while on scene.
  • Provide support for management and staff.
  • Assist with monitoring productivity and tracking Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
  • Assist management in EMS Operations, including keeping up with regulations, licensing, staffing, staff education, equipment maintenance, finance, and quality assurance as needed.
  • Act as a formal resource for the EMS staff.
  • Assist with patient care in the receiving facility.
  • Perform lifting and moving of patients as required.
  • Attend training classes to maintain national certification, state licensure, and keep abreast of new developments in the field.
  • Provide welcoming and educational environment for students and complete any academic assessments in a timely manner.
