About The Position

This position monitors daily clinic flow, including employee assignments, and performs technical and clerical functions. The Lead Ophthalmic Technician works closely with clinic leaders to coordinate schedules and promote an efficient and productive clinic. This role assists Physicians with examinations, testing, treatments, and administrative duties. The Lead Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for updating and communicating practice policies and procedures to clinical staff, acting as a liaison between clinic leadership and staff, and providing input to improve clinic efficiency. They also assist the clinic leader in training and evaluating clinical staff, monitor staff compliance with policies, and manage team hours to minimize overtime. This role requires maintaining knowledge of all clinic aspects, including front desk, medical records, surgery scheduling, and the contact center. The Lead Ophthalmic Technician completes tasks requested by Physicians and delegates as appropriate, and serves as the go-to person for patient call and walk-in triage. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • One year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proficient keyboarding skills, use of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and image management system
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Computer proficiency and ability to quickly learn new applications

Nice To Haves

  • Current Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification is preferred, but not required
  • Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) certification is preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Updates and communicates practice policies and procedures to clinical staff.
  • Acts as a liaison between clinic leadership and the clinic staff.
  • Provides input to clinic leadership to improve clinic efficiency and productivity.
  • Assists the clinic leader in the training and evaluation of clinical staff. May be asked to provide input to clinic leaders for employee reviews.
  • Monitors clinical staff for compliance with clinic policies.
  • Monitors team hours to minimize overtime and make changes to the schedule as patient flow allows, communicating to the clinic leader when appropriate.
  • Maintains knowledge of all aspects of the clinic, such as front desk, medical records, surgery scheduling, and contact center for coordination purposes.
  • Completes tasks requested by Physicians and delegates as appropriate.
  • Assists in triage for patient calls and walk-ins (go to person on the team).
  • Other duties as assigned.
