The Lead Ophthalmic Technician assists the Clinic Manager in supervising Ophthalmic Assistants and Diagnostic Technicians, and in managing the day-to-day administrative and clinical operations of the assigned location. This role is responsible for creating and sustaining a highly accountable and inspired work environment where employees deliver exceptional patient care, setting an example for operational and clinical staff through shared leadership. The Lead Ophthalmic Technician also performs direct patient care, including obtaining accurate patient history, performing lensometry, diagnostic testing, visual acuities, ocular measurements, administering medications, performing tonometry, maintaining surgical instruments, assisting with punctual plugs, and providing post-operative instructions. A basic understanding of ocular pharmacology is also required.
