About The Position

Under general supervision, performs responsible technical and supervisory work in the operations and mechanical maintenance of a water/wastewater facility. Assists in the administrative, technical, and supervisory work in the management and daily operation of the treatment plant and laboratory collection and sampling. Coordinates and supervises work activities of treatment plant personnel.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited High School or GED equivalent.
  • Three (3) to Five (5) years of treatment plant experience of which two (2) years must have been in mechanical and electrical repair, preferably in a water or wastewater system environment.
  • At least (1) one year experience working in a supervisory or lead capacity position.
  • Possession of a minimum Class "B" treatment license in water treatment with the State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
  • Possession of a minimum Class “A” treatment license in water treatment with the State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection or the ability to obtain within two (2) years of employment.
  • Southeast Desalting Association (SEDA) Certification in Membrane Technology or the ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment.
  • Possession of a valid Class "E" Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be physically able to operate a vehicle.
  • Must not have driver's license suspensions within five (5) years of submission of an application, unless it was insurance-related.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Provides training, technical support and guidance in the work activities of treatment plant personnel in lower classifications in treatment processes.
  • Supervises the activities of subordinates in their performance of maintenance, repair and operation of water plant and laboratory.
  • Reviews the work of subordinates for completeness and accuracy; evaluates and make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Interprets operating data and institutes minor modifications in operation procedures to assure continuous and efficient treatment; in the event of emergencies; notifies supervisor and places into effect the established corrective procedures to restore operating conditions.
  • Ensures safe, effective operations of plant facilities in accordance with related State and Federal regulations.
  • Assists with repair and routine maintenance of mechanical, electrical and instrument repair of equipment.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records on the plant operation, maintenance and laboratory data.
  • Orders and keeps accurate inventory and records of all chemicals used and water treated.
  • Assist in the preparation of all regulatory reports.
  • Assists in formulating and implementing standard operating procedures, techniques, and rules.
  • Ensures safe use of all treatment related supplies.
  • Participates in new worker orientation; provides training and instruction to plant personnel.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Reports unusual or major problems to the Chief Operator.
  • Performs other related work as required.
