About The Position

The part-time Lead On-Ice Instructor role is responsible for running safe, enjoyable, and productive on-ice sessions to the participants in Ottawa Senators Hockey Programs (OSHP) at all Sensplex facilities. This is a newly created position.

Requirements

  • Previous hockey/skating experience at a high level
  • Previous coaching/instructional experience
  • Comfortable and enjoy working with children of all ages
  • Strong teaching skills
  • Team player
  • Professional demeanor
  • Strong work ethic
  • Ability to work flexible hours

Nice To Haves

  • Consistency in specific nights each week is considered an asset
  • NCCP/Hockey Canada Coaching Certification is considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring safe and enjoyable development sessions for participants
  • Following policies and procedures set out by OSHP Hockey Development Team
  • Working with Head of Hockey Development and Head Hockey Instructors to deliver on-ice programming and key themes & teaching points
  • Delivering error-detection, correction, and instruction to program participants
  • Assisting with preparation and supervision of other on-ice instructors
  • Providing feedback to OSHP Hockey Development Team on ice-times and programs
  • Other duties as assigned by OSHP Hockey Development Team
  • Ensuring that all areas covered by Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) are adhered to
  • Working in compliance with the provisions of the OHSA, regulations and internal policies and procedures
  • Using or wearing protective equipment, devises or clothing when required
  • Reporting any missing or defective equipment or protective device which could endanger himself or herself or another team member
  • Reporting any contravention of the OHSA, regulations or SSE policies and procedures
  • Completing on-line training modules as required, including, but not limited to: Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability - Customer Service Standards Training, IASR: Information and Communications Standards, Understanding Human Rights Training, Ontario Worker Health & Safety Awareness, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System, Violence and Harassment in the Workplace
  • May also be required to attend on-site training sessions as scheduled.
