About The Position

University Cancer & Blood Center (UCBC) is seeking a full-time Lead Nuclear Medicine Technologist for its Covington location. The Lead Nuclear Medicine Technologist will be responsible for the overall technical quality in their assigned area, coordinating daily staff assignments, and ensuring compliance with regulations. This role involves performing diagnostic PET/CT or Nuclear Medicine imaging procedures, preparing radioactive isotopes, and assisting physicians and patients throughout the process. The position is Monday-Friday with no nights, weekends, or call.

Requirements

  • CNMT (Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist) and/or ARRT (N) certification.
  • Graduate of an AMA approved Nuclear Medicine Technology education program.
  • BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overall technical quality in the assigned area.
  • Coordinates daily staff assignments
  • Reviews daily exam/therapy orders for accuracy and resolves discrepancies with the ordering provider.
  • Assist Director with staff dosimetry
  • Coordinates multi-modality patients with other imaging areas
  • Maintains radioactive waste storage and disposal records for the assigned area
  • First line assessment of patient complaints/issues, referring to the Director when appropriate.
  • Arranges preventive maintenance as recommended by vendor.
  • Prepares radioactive isotopes for administration in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures in accordance with physician’s orders.
  • Maintains QMP records to comply with State and Federal regulations.
  • Performs diagnostic PET/CT or Nuclear Medicine imaging procedures to include injection of radio-pharmaceutical and/or IV contrast, protocol setup, patient position, reconstruction and filming of images, network image transfers.
  • Start peripheral IV and access central venous catheters.
  • Must be able to operate glucometer to check patient’s blood sugar prior to injection of Isotope for PET and understand the range of glucose levels in order to obtain diagnostic scan.
  • Assists in procedure scheduling to ensure smooth workflow and proper patient preparation.
  • Maintains confidentially of all information related to patients and medical staff.
  • Offers expertise to physicians regarding appropriateness of additional/modified studies, etc.
  • Escorts patients to treatment room.
  • Assists with dressings as necessary.
  • Completes all paperwork necessary to ensure timely delivery of PET services.
  • Arranges preventive maintenance as recommended by vendor.
  • Provides protection for patient and self in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
  • Conducts daily quality control measures to monitor equipment performance.
  • Reports all malfunctions and/or need for service to the proper company or facility.
  • Maintain supplies needed for PET.
  • Utilize EMR for review of patient history, documentation, possible rescheduling of exams and billing.
  • Assist with ACR renewal.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
