About The Position

The Lead Neuropsychologist, Pediatric Psychology and Neuropsychology will serve as a liaison to the department of medical education and research at CR and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation to align service, teaching, and research initiatives. This role involves performing neuropsychological evaluations appropriate to each patient, focusing primarily on the organic aspects of brain function while also considering other etiological factors that may affect a patient's functional abilities. The Lead Neuropsychologist will utilize Psychometrists for test administration and scoring, ensuring accuracy through review and supervision. Responsibilities include providing psychotherapy, counseling (individual, family, group), education, cognitive retraining, behavior management, and crisis intervention as needed. The role also entails developing and documenting treatment plans according to departmental guidelines, discussing them with patients/representatives for consent and participation, and training professional team members on observational methods, behavior management, and supportive roles in neuropsychological treatment. Additionally, the Lead Neuropsychologist will provide evaluation and advice on patient diagnosis and management based on granted privileges, and share information, reports, and education with outside professionals, agencies, and schools after proper release of information. A key aspect of the role is educating patients, families, team members, and the community about the neuropsychological and rehabilitation aspects of injury, illness, and recovery, fostering community understanding and acceptance of individuals with disabilities.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology including a full time 1 year pre-doctoral internship and completion of a full time 2 year post-doctoral fellowship with training in neuropsychology required.
  • Applicable state license to practice psychology required.

  • Doctoral training in medical/rehabilitation psychology with training in neuropsychology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as liaison to the department of medical education and research at CR and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation to align service, teaching and research initiatives.
  • Performs neuropsychological evaluations, appropriate to each patient, which focuses primarily upon the organic aspects of brain function, but which also takes into account other etiological factors which may affect patient's functional abilities.
  • Utilizes Psychometrists for the administration and scoring of tests as appropriate, and insures the accuracy of their administration and scoring through the review and supervision of those.
  • Provides psychotherapy, counseling (individual, family, group), education, cognitive retraining, behavior management, and/or crisis intervention as appropriate to treat problem areas identified in the assessment process.
  • Develops and documents appropriate treatment plans according to departmental guidelines, and discusses these with the patient and/or representative to ensure they participate in the development of the plan and consent to treatments.
  • Trains professional team members involved in the care of the patient with regard to appropriate observational methods and behavior management techniques, and appropriate supportive roles in the patient's neuropsychological treatment.
  • Provides evaluation and advice regarding the diagnosis and management of patients, based upon privileges granted.
  • Provides information, reports, and education to outside professionals, agencies, schools, workplaces, etc. as appropriate and after proper release of information has been executed.
  • Provides education to patients, families, team members and others in the community regarding the neuropsychological and rehabilitation aspects of injury, illness, and recovery, and fosters community understanding and acceptance of individuals with disabilities.
