Lead Network Automation Engineer

Wells FargoColumbus, OH

About The Position

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Network Automation Engineer with a strong focus on authoritative network services platforms, including DNS, DHCP, IP Address Management (DDI), and enterprise timing services. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining Python‑ and Ansible‑based automation that manages the lifecycle, consistency, and reliability of DDI platforms and timing appliances (e.g., NTP/PTP systems). The ideal candidate brings a solid foundation in network or infrastructure services and applies that experience to building API‑driven, automation‑first solutions that govern platform behavior, enforce standards, reduce manual operational effort, and improve service reliability at enterprise scale. This role focuses on platform and service management, rather than day‑to‑day record administration or ad‑hoc configuration changes.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Network Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Nice To Haves

  • Strong experience developing Python‑based automation for network services or infrastructure platforms
  • Hands‑on experience building and maintaining Ansible roles and workflow‑oriented automation
  • Experience applying Infrastructure as Code principles to manage platform state, service behavior, and policy in a controlled and repeatable manner
  • Ability to develop automation for state validation, compliance checks, auditing, and operational reporting
  • Proficiency writing reusable, maintainable Python code, including structured logging, error handling, and defensive automation patterns
  • Experience integrating automation with version control systems, testing frameworks, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Familiarity with collecting and analyzing platform metrics, service telemetry, and logs to support operational insights and reliability improvements
  • Exposure to DNS, DHCP, IP Address Management, or enterprise timing platforms (e.g., BlueCat, Infoblox, Spectracom, or equivalent) is beneficial but not required

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain Python and Ansible-based automation to operate and manage authoritative network services platforms, including DDI and enterprise timing systems
  • Build and manage Ansible roles and workflows that automate platform behavior through APIs, enforcing standards and reducing manual operational touchpoints
  • Develop Python automation to support platform‑level workflows, including service state validation, health checks, pre‑change and post‑change verification, reporting, and telemetry collection
  • Integrate platform automation with version control and CI/CD pipelines to support testing, controlled change execution, and governed rollouts
  • Produce clear documentation for platform automation workflows, including inputs, expected outcomes, guardrails, failure handling, and operational runbooks
  • Create automation to support DDI and timing service lifecycle management, including pre‑validation, staged deployments, post‑change verification, and rollback signaling
  • Develop compliance and audit‑support tooling to improve visibility into platform configuration, service state, and policy enforcement
  • Use automation and tooling to support diagnostics, troubleshooting, and operational efficiency for authoritative network services platforms
  • Lead the design and execution of complex technical initiatives related to enterprise‑scale network services and timing infrastructure
  • Collaborate with peer engineering teams, security partners, and stakeholders to align platform automation with enterprise controls and operational requirements
  • Identify gaps in platform operations and governance and recommend automation‑driven improvements to improve reliability and service levels

  • Health benefits
  • 401(k) Plan
  • Paid time off
  • Disability benefits
  • Life insurance, critical illness insurance, and accident insurance
  • Parental leave
  • Critical caregiving leave
  • Discounts and savings
