About The Position

Drover is seeking a Lead Mobile Developer to own and scale their React Native application, which serves as the primary interface for ranchers to manage and monitor their cattle. This role is crucial at the intersection of geospatial data, livestock management, and connected hardware, where performance and reliability directly impact customers' operations. As an early-stage startup, the position offers high ownership and the opportunity to influence product direction. The Lead Mobile Developer will be responsible for the Mapbox-powered maps, user experience, and data synchronization with the backend. The role also includes the future growth and leadership of a mobile team.

Requirements

5+ years of experience building production mobile applications.
Strong experience with TypeScript React Native apps.
Shipped and maintained applications on both the App Store and Play Store.
Comfortable debugging natively on both iOS and Android.
Experience driving design and product-level decisions.
Willingness to work in-person in Austin.
Experience in automated UI testing.

Nice To Haves

Expo experience.
Mapping/geolocation experience (specifically Mapbox).
BLE/NFC experience.
Hardware integration background.

Responsibilities

Lead, build, and scale the React Native/Expo app for both the App Store and Play Store from an early stage.
Own the mapping and geolocation experience for ranchers managing cattle.
Design data flows and offline/sync behavior for seamless integration with the backend and connected devices.
Integrate with wearable hardware using BLE/NFC.
Debug and optimize performance across both iOS and Android platforms.
Utilize AI-assisted development while ensuring code quality and readability.
Monitor and optimize app performance, including load times, responsiveness, and battery efficiency for field use.
Build and lead a mobile team over time.
