About The Position

Lakewood Ranch Medical Center (LWRMC) is an award-winning, high-quality, acute-care hospital accredited by The Joint Commission. The Lead Medical Technologist is responsible for all Medical Technologist duties including receiving and analyzing laboratory specimens and reporting results in a timely manner in accordance with Laboratory Policies and Procedures. Performs duties which may require both technical and professional judgment. Participates in and helps evaluate the Department’s Quality Control, Quality Assurance, maintenance, and safety programs. Maintains parts, reagents and supplies in areas assigned to the section. In addition, the Lead Technologist assists the Lab Manager as preceptor to initial training, annual staff competencies, cross training staff into other sections and follow up re-education as needed. The Lead assists with implementing new tests and instrumentation, linearities, calibrations, correlations, weekly maintenance, monthly and quarterly maintenance. The Lead also assists with maintaining standing reagent orders, supply orders and reagent PAR levels. Requirements

  • Florida State licensure as a Medical Technologist under the provisions of Chapter 483.
  • This Laboratory requires licensure in the specialties of Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, and Immunohematology.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Communication and interpersonal skills, basic computer skills and customer service skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • B.S. Degree in Medical Technology preferred
  • At least one year as a currently active Medical Technologist is preferred.
  • The applicant must possess current skills in the required licensures so that the orientation period is not a training period, but strictly an orientation period to our facility and its instrumentation, policies and procedures.
  • Recent graduates and licensed applicants may be considered in lieu of experience.
  • Serology and Microbiology a plus.
  • ASCP certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Lab Supervisor as preceptor to initial training, annual staff competencies.
  • Assists in cross training staff in other sections and follows up on re-education as needed.
  • Assists with implementing new tests and instrumentation, linearities, calibrations, correlations, weekly maintenance, monthly and quarterly maintenance.
  • Assists with maintaining standing reagent orders, supply orders and reagent PAR levels.
  • In the Free-Standing ER location, will be required to obtain BLS certification during the 90-day orientation period.
  • Performs other related duties with a minimum of supervision.
  • Other duties as assigned.
