About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Office Manager, the Lead MOA oversees daily administrative operations in the assigned area. This role is responsible for providing direction to scheduling staff regarding daily operations and works closely with the Office Manager to ensure adequate staffing. The Lead MOA ensures that day-to-day scheduling functions are carried out efficiently to expedite patient flow, and promotes teamwork, professionalism, communication, and staff development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and one (1) year relevant work experience in customer service business environment or healthcare (patient registration, admitting, and/or scheduling); OR a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) and three years relevant work experience in customer service or healthcare (patient registration, admitting, and/or scheduling).
  • Experience with Windows, Excel, Access and Intranet/Internet navigation tools as well as system contact.
  • Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks in a busy environment.
  • Strong verbal, written, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a self-directed manner while interacting with customers, physicians and departmental partners.
  • Familiarity with MUSC Health and its entities.
  • A high level of customer service skills and the ability to clearly articulate via phone with providers, patients and customers.
  • Typing speed of 25cwpm and computer experience.
  • Ability to work weekends and staggered shifts may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with, or knowledge of Medical Terminology.
  • Patient Access Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in daily issues associated with the functions of the department schedule.
  • Monthly preparation of the department schedule.
  • Assist with preparing training education for the department.
  • On the job training of all new hires and registration staff not meeting performance standards.
  • Perform patient access functions using computer system, printer, copier, calculator, fax machine, directories, and other departmental reference material.
  • Collect patient demographic, insurance, and limited medical information.
  • Obtain signatures for consent and authorization.
  • Ensure patient privacy.
  • Print registration documents and distribute as required per hospital policy.
  • Assist patients, their families, and visitors with questions and directions.
  • Collect payments on patient accounts.
  • Contact insurance companies and/or physician offices for certification and/or authorization of inpatient or observation admissions.
  • Communicate continuously with insurance companies, physician offices, patients, families, visitors, and staff.
  • Participate in training and orientation of new employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
