Lead Medical Assistant
About The Position
Provides general medical care under the direction of a licensed provider to patients in an outpatient clinic setting. AFC is one of the largest primary and urgent care companies in the U.S. providing services seven days a week on a walk-in basis. Our state-of-the-art centers focus on the episodic treatment of acute illnesses and injuries, workers' compensation, and occupational medicine. Each location is equipped with an onsite lab and in-house x-ray capability. AFC is the parent company of AFC Franchising, LLC (AFCF). This position works directly with a franchised business location. The specific job duties and benefits can vary between franchises.
Requirements
- Six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have medical assistant or clinical experience!
Responsibilities
- Assist with interviewing, hiring and training Medical Assistant staff
- Be available to cover shifts when staff call in
- Obtain patient vitals, medical history, and reason for visit, and prepare the patient for a physical exam
- Explain prescribed procedures and treatments to patients
- Ensure all ordered tests are performed accurately and in a timely manner
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with the approved procedure
- Draw blood and preparation labs for reference lab processing and/or in-house processing
- Perform laboratory tests, lab-quality controls, and equipment maintenance according to written instructions
- Responsible for lab compliances; must be organized!
- Coordinate oversight of laboratory with Medical Director as needed
- Perform all drug screening procedures in accordance with established rules and regulations
- Ensure patient immunizations are well documented, administered in accordance with approved procedure, and stored appropriately
- Conduct physician referrals as well as service pre-certifications on an as-needed basis
- Prepare exam rooms; sterilize instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures
- Corrective action conversations with back office employees
- Maintain complete and accurate documentation
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
