About The Position

The Lead Medical Assistant plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of clinical and administrative functions within the medical practice. The position combines hands-on patient care with leadership responsibilities, including oversight of medical assistants, coordination of front office and volunteer operations, and support of clinical workflows. The Lead Medical Assistant serves as a liaison between patients, providers, and staff to ensure high-quality, efficient, and compassionate care.

Requirements

  • Strong clinical and administrative knowledge.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Electronic Health Record systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and lead a team effectively.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a Medical Assistant, with at least one year in a leadership or supervisory role.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for examination by taking vital signs, medical history, and chief complaints.
  • Assist providers with examinations, procedures, and treatments.
  • Administer medications and injections as directed by the provider.
  • Perform EKG’s, phlebotomy, wound care, and other clinical tasks as trained and permitted.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Ensure exam rooms are clean, stocked, and properly equipped.
  • Monitor and manage clinical inventory and order medical supplies.
  • Follow infection control and safety procedures in compliance with OSHA and HIPAA regulations.
  • Greet and check in patients, verify insurance, and collect co-pays.
  • Schedule appointments, manage provider calendars, and handle patient reminders.
  • Answer phones, respond to inquiries, and route messages appropriately.
  • Process referrals and medical record requests.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure compliance with HIPAA.
  • Supports Diabetic Education processes.
  • Supervise and mentor medical assistant staff, including training and performance feedback.
  • Coordinate daily clinical operations and staff/volunteer assignments.
  • Serve as a point of contact for clinical and administrative issues.
  • Collaborate with providers and management to improve workflows and patient satisfaction.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with clinical protocols and regulatory standards.
