About The Position

We are seeking a Lead Mechanical HVAC Design Engineer to join our dynamic team in Hollywood, FL. In this role, you will serve as a key technical authority, driving sophisticated HVAC designs, mentoring developing engineers, and orchestrating multidisciplinary coordination across high-profile projects spanning commercial high-rises, healthcare, life sciences, hospitality, and mission-critical facilities. Joining our team means stepping into an established, growth-oriented MEP engineering environment that values technical mastery, innovative building electrification strategies, and quality design execution. You will take full ownership of projects across their entire lifecycle—from initial feasibility and central plant concept design through agency approvals, construction administration, and commissioning. This position offers exceptional professional runway, active support for licensure and continuing education, and a clear path toward senior leadership within a premier engineering platform.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Active Progress toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure, or an active PE license.
  • 8+ years of progressively responsible mechanical HVAC design experience within an MEP consulting engineering firm.
  • Proven track record leading mechanical design assignments and directing junior engineers, designers, and BIM personnel.
  • Advanced proficiency with Revit MEP and AutoCAD, alongside expertise in HVAC load calculation software (e.g., Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, IESVE).
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of mechanical, energy, building, fuel gas, fire, and ASHRAE codes and standards.
  • Hands-on experience performing existing-conditions site surveys and conducting construction-phase site observations, submittal reviews, and RFI responses.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Florida
  • LEED AP, WELL AP, CEM, CPD, HBDP, BEMP, or BCxP credentials.
  • 12+ years of mechanical HVAC consulting experience with track record as Engineer of Record.
  • High-level familiarity with complex project types such as healthcare (FGI/ASHRAE 170), life science laboratories, commercial high-rise, residential towers, hospitality, or mission-critical facilities.
  • Specialized expertise in central utility plant design, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), smoke control/stair pressurization, building decarbonization, and heat-recovery applications.
  • Established technical presence and professional relationships within the regional AEC community.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, evaluate, and detail complex airside and waterside HVAC systems—including VAV, DOAS, VRF/VRV, chilled water, heating hot water, steam, heat pumps, and water-source heat pump configurations—for new construction, major building repositioning, and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Direct the design and performance analysis of central utility plants, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, and thermal storage systems; evaluate lifecycle performance, redundancy, maintainability, and carbon emissions to guide capital investment strategies.
  • Pioneer practical building electrification and heat-recovery solutions, supporting the conversion of fossil-fuel heating to electric/hybrid heat pump systems while assessing electrical-service implications in tandem with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Lead rigorous discipline QA/QC reviews at major project milestones; maintain and elevate internal calculation templates, Revit details, specifications, and standardized engineering workflows to drive consistency across project teams.
  • Partner seamlessly with electrical, plumbing, fire protection, structural, and architectural teams to integrate complex mechanical systems into BIM models (Revit), resolving clash detection and securing critical spatial clearances, shafts, and louver requirements early.
  • Develop sophisticated DDC control sequences, sensor points, safeties, and system integration strategies for specialized environments requiring precise temperature, humidity, pressure relationships, and air-filtration controls.
  • Interpret and enforce mechanical, energy conservation, building, fuel gas, fire, and fire codes, ASHRAE standards, and local agency requirements; manage agency filings, clear objections, and ensure complete regulatory compliance.
  • Direct custom HVAC design solutions for critical environments including operating rooms, outpatient centers, laboratories, cleanrooms, data centers, commercial kitchens, and high-rise smoke-control/stair-pressurization systems.
  • Serve as the senior technical voice in client design workshops, contractor preconstruction meetings, and site visits; oversee equipment submittals, field surveys, RFIs, startup observations, punch lists, and system commissioning.
  • Direct the daily work of project engineers, designers, and BIM specialists, delegating tasks aligned with project scope while actively mentoring junior staff to foster technical excellence and team advancement.
