About The Position

The Lead Mechanical Estimator is a career-level professional responsible for managing all aspects of the estimate from kickoff to turnover. This role provides leadership for all estimate disciplines and serves as the expert on piping costs and estimate details. The Lead Mechanical Estimator ensures the Estimate Sponsor's vision and strategic planning are executed to achieve the right cost for the job. This position offers opportunities to learn other roles within Kiewit’s OGC business for career development and involves assisting the Estimate Sponsor in presenting estimates to executive leadership during reviews. Kiewit Energy U.S. is the center of our Oil, Gas and Chemical market, providing comprehensive EPC services to various process industries and aiming to be the company's experts in EPC coordination across the United States. This position is located in the Energy Corridor in the greater Houston, TX area. Kiewit relocates teams based on available work, development plans, skill sets, and career goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management with an emphasis in Mechanical is preferred OR extensive and related work experience leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge, skills, and abilities described above.
  • At least five years’ experience in a related role.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge and understanding of construction mean/methods.
  • Strong attention to detail; strong communication, interpersonal, leadership, and team-building skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Regular, reliable attendance.
  • Work productively and meet deadlines timely.
  • Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment.
  • Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with Estimating Management on mechanical related issues.
  • Provide direction to the estimate mechanical team and assign tasks.
  • Ensure the proper Kiewit estimating system template(s) are utilized.
  • Provide oversight of all information being entered into the Kiewit estimating system to ensure an accurate mechanical estimate.
  • Ensure that all engineering deliverables are produced, checked, and issued to the estimate team on schedule.
  • Coordinate between the estimating mechanical discipline and estimating management.
  • Develop Mechanical Estimate Risks & Opportunities.
  • Develop Mechanical Estimate Clarifications & Exceptions.
  • Ensure that all estimate review book mechanical information is complete.
  • Prepare for all reviews in accordance with the Kiewit estimating standards.
  • Present Estimate to Kiewit Leadership.
  • Assist Mechanical Department Manager in developing and maintaining standard tools.
  • Assist Mechanical Department Manager in developing any Departmental Initiatives.
  • Travel to project sites to collect data, as required.
