About The Position

This Opportunity WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our Property & Buildings team in Los Angeles, CA. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer with a strong background in healthcare and other complex building sectors, including commercial, higher education, and civic projects. You will play a key role in leading multi-disciplinary projects and delivering high-quality mechanical systems design from concept through construction. Be involved in projects with our Property & Buildings Team and be part of a collaborative organization that meets our clients’ objectives and solves their challenges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering
  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design for building systems
  • Experience supporting healthcare and/or complex institutional or commercial projects
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, building systems design, and engineering principles
  • Experience managing projects through design and construction phases
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and related design tools
  • Strong communication, leadership, and client-facing skills

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience working across multiple sectors including healthcare, commercial, higher education, or civic
  • Familiarity with California codes and local jurisdiction requirements
  • Experience supporting business development and client relationship management
  • LEED AP or other sustainability credentials

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical engineering design and delivery across a diverse portfolio including healthcare, commercial, higher education, and civic facilities
  • Oversee design of HVAC, air distribution, hydronic, plumbing, and life safety systems
  • Serve as a technical lead and client point of contact throughout the project lifecycle
  • Manage projects from concept development through construction and close-out, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, and budget
  • Support client development and proposal efforts, contributing to growth in multiple sectors
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and sector-specific requirements, including healthcare regulations
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver integrated, high-quality solutions
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to junior engineers and designers
  • Prepare and review technical reports, calculations, and specifications
