About The Position

The University of Rochester is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to support renovations and additions to University facilities. This role involves providing professional mechanical engineering services throughout all phases of research, design, and construction. The Lead Mechanical Engineer will also mentor and train junior engineers, manage in-house mechanical design projects, and ensure compliance with building and fire codes. The position is full-time, based in Rochester, NY, with a compensation range of $86,482.00 - $129,723.00 annually.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 6 years of experience in mechanical engineering required
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred
  • New York State Mechanical Engineer license preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintains responsibility for mechanical engineering design in support of renovations and additions to University facilities.
  • Provides full range of professional mechanical engineering services in all phases of research, design and construction.
  • Mentors and trains new or lower level engineers.
  • Manages and coordinates in-house mechanical design projects, including responsibility for planning, scheduling, estimating, client contact, preliminary and final design/drawings, preparation of contract documents, bidding, field supervision, project inspection, and approval for conformance and payment, etc.
  • Provides professional advice and judgment in application of building and fire codes, understanding of project procedures, processing of project documents, and relationships with clients.
  • Maintains general familiarity with project and dialogue with client on matters related to project.
  • May assign and supervise selected tasks to subordinate staff.
  • Prepares recommendations on building maintenance.
  • Maintains authority to seal and certify drawings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
