About The Position

The Tooling Method & Design Main Project Engineer will join the Tooling team within the Engineering department, responsible for technical studies and design of tools for transportation and erection of main pieces of equipment constituting a hydropower plant (embedded parts, turbine, generator, valves and hydromechanical). This role involves defining methods for handling, transport, and support of Turbine and Generator components for projects. The engineer will gather information from site, Centers of Excellence (COEs), and project teams to conceptualize tools for erection and maintenance operations according to relevant procedures. Responsibilities include performing design and calculation notes for tooling, following a structured design process, and specifically managing project execution for awarded projects in the North America region, with a mandatory focus on design validation (US stamp).

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree from an accredited university in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent knowledge or experience.
  • Significant experience (>5 years) in mechanical design.
  • US stamp Mandatory.
  • Experience in design of lifting equipment and access platforms or significant site experience.
  • Good knowledge of CAD and calculation.
  • Excellent written & verbal English skills for international communications.
  • Proven ability to work with cross-functional and global teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, proven leadership skills, and a positive energy.

Responsibilities

  • For a given project in execution, collect information from site, Project Engineering Manager, logistics, and Center of Excellence to prepare synopsis (sequence of installation/maintenance) and lashing (transport) drawings.
  • Conceptualize erection and maintenance operations according to procedures (done by site team), aiming to maximize the use of standard tools and adhere to EHS rules.
  • Perform calculations and design of tools according to CoE’s Design Practices, with validation from the tooling principal engineer.
  • Represent the Tooling Center of Excellence (CoE) to the Project Team, including System Integrator, CoE main project engineers, Supply Chain, and Construction & Commissioning.
  • Coordinate within the Tooling CoE the calculation and design of all tools identified during the synopsis phase, ensuring adherence to planning, cost, and safety requirements.
  • Design specific tools, including 3D models, calculation notes, fabrication drawings, and instruction manuals.
  • Identify the need for access on machines and specify requirements for specific packing.
  • Prepare lifting drawings.
  • Stamp tooling designs as required for North American projects (US stamp mandatory).
  • Push the synopsis Bill of Materials (BOM) into the GE product life management system.
  • Participate in the design of tools or components to implement tooling requirements.
  • Serve as the point of contact for site teams requesting support.
  • Coordinate synopsis tasks with subcontractors or technicians.
  • Identify standard tools available on the market.
