About The Position

Nammo Energetics (NEI) is seeking a Lead Equipment Design Engineer to design, build, and improve automated and semi-automated production equipment, including hydraulic and pneumatic systems, fixtures, and tooling. This role is crucial for establishing and operating a new solid rocket motor manufacturing facility in Perry, Florida, targeting initial production in 2027. The Lead Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting equipment, making improvements to ensure efficient production, quality, and safety requirements are met. The position is on-site in Perry, FL, with occasional travel to Raufoss, Norway, and requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and 5 years work experience or 15 years work experience in equivalent position.
  • Advanced 3D Design capability
  • Designing and maintaining automated assembly machines
  • Knowledge of hydraulics systems, drawings, hydraulic schematics
  • Knowledge of pneumatics systems, drawings, and schematics
  • Ability to interpret all types of mechanical, electrical and pneumatic drawings
  • Ability to follow projects through to completion
  • Ability to follow and understand basic PLC code
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Excellent organizational and computer skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, Project, and Outlook.
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Self-starter, ability to work independently to meet specified deadlines
  • Must submit to and pass a drug test pursuant to Company Drug-Free Workplace Policy
  • Must be able to obtain BATF approval to work with our products.
  • Must have good vision (may be corrected)
  • Must be able to communicate written and verbally
  • Must be able to travel.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and sit for prolonged periods of time, and be able to lift up to 20 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute special projects, including design and fabrication of production equipment (automated and semi-automated assembly and secondary machines, etc.), material selection and tooling requirements.
  • Evaluate existing mechanical, electromechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems for improved yield and throughput.
  • Develop mechanical/electromechanical fixtures and machines adhering to customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Process Engineers, and other departments to obtain necessary requirements for writing detailed scopes for the procurement of new equipment.
  • Assures system and product quality by confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes.
  • Keeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; requesting special services.
  • Estimate tooling cost from design through fabrication.
  • Coordinate with machine vendor through concept, design, fabrication, runoff and setup of equipment.
  • Maintain adherence to Company policies and procedures, safety and environmental standards, and good housekeeping practices.
  • Assist maintenance with troubleshooting and repairing production equipment.
