About The Position

Performs and oversees skilled maintenance and repair activities involving school buses, fleet vehicles, and public works equipment; provides technical guidance and assistance to mechanics, ensures adherence to established maintenance procedures, and maintains quality workmanship and service standards. Inspects, performs preventative maintenance, diagnoses, maintains, and repairs Light Duty or Heavy-Duty vehicles and equipment, including oil and filter changes, lubrication services, fluid replacement, component inspections, systems testing, and complex mechanical repairs. Utilizing diagnostic equipment to determine repair needs. Maintains and repairs shop facilities, fuel stations, and related maintenance equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations. Monitors, troubleshoots, repairs, installs, and/or maintains vehicles, equipment, tools, facility and workspaces. Reviews and monitors supply and material needs; initiates supply requests; loads and delivers materials as required. Prepares and reviews various documents and work orders; completes activity logs or reports and maintains records of vehicle Maintenance. Contributes to the overall success of Vehicle Maintenance by performing other essential duties as assigned. Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds. Subject to 24- hour recall: The City reserves the right to require an employee in this position to work overtime including during emergency situations (defined as any natural or man-made disaster that may or may not necessitate the relocation of City personnel or citizens). In the event of an emergency and/or a required evacuation, the incumbent may be required to remain at work to provide needed services or perform essential duties for the benefit of the general public including services or duties different from those performed in the normal course and scope of the position.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED and five (5) years of experience related to area of assignment; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Commercial Driver's License (School Bus and Passenger Endorsements required).
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, state and local laws, codes, regulations and/or ordinances.
  • Knowledge of skilled maintenance and operations techniques and practices of assigned area.
  • Knowledge of utility vehicle operation techniques.
  • Knowledge of equipment, tools, and materials of assigned area.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and related safety precautions and practices.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles.
  • Knowledge of mathematical concepts.
  • Knowledge of specialized equipment relevant to area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of modern office technology and equipment.
  • Maintains current knowledge of emerging vehicle technologies, repair methods, diagnostic systems, and manufacturer service procedures.
