Processes all cuts of beef, lamb and pork products and is responsible for ordering and maintaining production schedule. Requirements

  • As a retail grocer, we operate 7 days/week and 365 days/year.
  • Our in-store positions are likely to include evening, weekend, and holiday shifts per the needs of the business.
  • Must complete and maintain any required food and work safety trainings/certifications
  • Engages the customer in a friendly manner by seeking opportunities to exceed customer expectations and enhance the customer experience.
  • Works a schedule that is informed by the needs of the business and may be subject to change seasonally or due to varying staffing needs and demonstrates reliable and predictable attendance, in accordance with attendance policy and all applicable laws.

  • Prior meat cutting/fabrication/butchery experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous customer service, food service, retail or grocery experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of retail Meat and Seafood departments preferred, however butcher shop or meat fabrication industry experience acceptable.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Wraps, weighs and prices meat and seafood products according to department policy, dating and government regulations in regards to tare weights and COOL Act.
  • Ensures all meat and seafood items are cut, trimmed, and processed in accordance to company standards.
  • Orders meat products according to anticipated sales and seasonal needs. Maintains appropriate inventory levels to achieve sales and margin goals. Maintains professional vendor relationships.
  • Stocks, rotates and faces cases. Adheres to Merchandising standards, category schematics, quality and expiration dates.
  • Maintains awareness of industry trends, current ads, promotions, holidays and events. Implements plans for weekly ads, events and holidays.
  • Assess and adjust production needs creates production scheduled based on business needs. Maintains production levels and updates to production guide.
  • Guides the work of back up meat cutters and other department staff, including prioritizing and assigning work, training staff, and ensuring quality standards are met and tasks are completed.
  • Ensures that excellent department conditions are maintained, including appearance, cleanliness, signage, and service levels.
  • Receives and unloads merchandise; checks quality, count for accuracy and condition. Communicates any issues to management and merchandising team.
  • Assists customers with product selection. Shares product knowledge with customers. Makes recommendations and suggestions based on customer needs.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with products in department, including terminology, cuts, recommended product uses, vendor/supplier information and product labelling, with ability to continue learning.
  • Adheres to department compliance with company organic standards.
  • Completes customer special orders thoroughly and provides follow-through as needed.
  • Maintains accurate pricing and signage that meet merchandising standards.
  • Follows company procedures for processing invoices, transfers and credits.
  • Handles damaged and spoiled product according to company policy.
  • Maintains the organization, rotation and cleanliness of back stock areas.
  • May participate in other activities such as inventory or event and holiday planning.
  • Notifies department manager or Manager On Duty of any situations relating to customer service, safety, productivity, security or any other situation that may have an adverse effect on the store.
