About The Position

Champion Foods is seeking a Lead, Material Handler for their 3rd shift. This role involves assisting the supervisor in overseeing the production workforce, maximizing production yields, and providing direction on operations, quality, food safety, and equipment. The lead will monitor colleagues, offer leadership, and provide expertise in material handling equipment. This is a working lead position, potentially directing up to 8 associates.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in a manufacturing, operational, packaging, or distribution environment or related industry.
  • Working knowledge of General Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), HACCP, Federal Drug Administration (FDA), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and OSHA requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively mentor and train others.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to utilize Inkling, Oracle, and other software platforms as required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate to a wide variety of colleagues and temporary workers.
  • Evidence of mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to organize and follow through on jobs and assigned projects.
  • Evidence of ability to multi-task and set priorities within the department.
  • Must be certified to backfill required positions supported by Inkling completion.
  • Must complete all identified leadership training modules within 1 year of accepting the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Evidence of strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills is preferred.
  • Previous experience supervising or providing work direction and coaching for development to teams, monitoring performance, and ensuring compliance to regulations and policies is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience operating powered industrial vehicles is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the supervisor with monitoring material handling metrics and making improvements or adjustments.
  • Creating production line schedules and directing workflow and activities of production colleagues.
  • Monitoring colleagues during material handling activities to ensure adherence to safety and food safety handling procedures.
  • Training new material handling colleagues on powered industrial vehicles functions and ensuring correct and safe operation.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory and technological changes affecting the food industry (FDA, USDA, BRC), investigating compliance issues, and providing recommendations.
  • Working with the supervisor to ensure compliance with company rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Promoting a safe and fair working environment.
  • Participating and facilitating team meetings.
  • Providing input to the supervisor regarding colleague performance, development, and team morale.
  • Collaborating with Human Resources on colleague development, performance management, and policy compliance.
  • Completing performance appraisals for assigned colleagues.
  • Supporting quality and continuous improvement initiatives.
