About The Position

This role is responsible for providing direction to Forklift Operators, including training, assigning work, and resolving problems within their area of responsibility. The Lead Material Handler operates gasoline-, liquefied gas-, or electric-powered industrial equipment with lifting devices to move products, equipment, or materials. This position also involves assisting with training employees, acting as a supervisor in their absence, inventorying materials, and supporting management in planning and directing work. The role requires daily case picking as needed and adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices and company safety rules. Other duties include assisting with onboarding and safety training, supporting special projects, and demonstrating schedule flexibility based on business needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one or more years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to successfully complete post-hire assessments.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain equipment certifications (e.g. OSHA, company, etc.).
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment appropriate for the work environment (e.g. protective footwear, protective eyewear, gloves, etc.) in accordance with safety policies.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Must have good and professional communication skills.
  • Must be a team player and embrace changes.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direction to Forklift Operators, including training, assigning work, and resolving problems.
  • Operates industrial powered lift truck in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Assists and supports with training employees and certifies newly hired LTOs.
  • Acts as Supervisor in the absence of the Shift Supervisor as needed.
  • Inventories materials on work floor and supplies workers with materials as needed.
  • Assists Supervisors and management in planning, assigning, and directing work.
  • Assists LTOs with daily issues.
  • Assists other Leads and Supervisors with ensuring policies, procedures, and best practices are followed.
  • Performs Case Pick daily and/or as needed based on business needs.
  • Follows corporate and site-specific Good Manufacturing Practices and reports noncompliance.
  • Observes all company safety rules and assists in enforcement.
  • Assists with onboarding and safety training.
  • Assists Ops Managers, Supervisors and GM/HRM with special projects.
  • Demonstrates schedule flexibility based on business needs.
