About The Position

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Market Risk Officer to join the Enterprise Counterparty Risk Management (ECRM) Team. The Enterprise Counterparty Risk Management (ECRM) Team within Market and Counterparty Risk Management (MCRM) is responsible for providing independent identification, monitoring, and credible challenge of counterparty risks across the Wells Fargo Enterprise for all capital markets traded products. ECRM professionals work with the business groups that originate and manage counterparty risk including Corporate and Investment Bank, Commercial Bank, Wealth and Investment Management, Consumer Lending, and Treasury. Capital markets transactions include Derivatives (Rates, FX, Commodities, CDS, and Equities), Securities Trading, and Securities Financing. Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: trading, desk analyst, Capital Markets, market risk, interest rate risk or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience in counterparty and market risk management of Derivatives, Futures/Options, Securities Financing, and Securities Trading, Prime Brokerage with focus on Equities.
  • Experience in risk management, risk modeling, and trading systems architecture
  • Experience in quantitative risk methodologies including statistical testing
  • Strong understanding of counterparty risk concepts (i.e. PFE, EL, credit capital) and/or market risk (i.e. valuation, Monte Carlo, Greeks, VaR) methodologies
  • Advanced Microsoft Office Skills (Excel VBA).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft SQL, and Python.
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Highly organized and able to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, achieve goals, and work under pressure in a dynamic and complex environment
  • Ability to work independently, assess issues, make quick decisions, implement solutions, build relationships across teams, and influence change
  • Familiarity with trading desk operations and systems (i.e. Calypso, Endur) is preferred
  • Advanced Degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a quantitative field
  • Financial Risk Management Certificate (FRM) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Model Owner for all Potential Future Exposure (PFE) models, with responsibility for end‑to‑end model governance, ongoing fitness‑for‑use, and alignment with regulatory and internal risk management expectations.
  • Provide oversight and execute formal model ownership responsibilities for counterparty credit exposure models, including proposing, reviewing, and approving model enhancements driven by evolving business activities, new products, and market conditions.
  • Review, challenge, and sign off on periodic model calibration results, including assessment of methodology, assumptions, limitations, and material impacts.
  • Provide informed opinions on model methodology suitability and system readiness for new products, trading strategies, and non‑standard trade structures.
  • Ensure data appropriateness for all PFE models, including oversight of input data sources, data quality standards, key transformations, and ongoing assessment of data relevance, completeness, and limitations supporting model use.
  • Oversee the ongoing model performance monitoring program for PFE models, working in partnership with risk analytics and model performance monitoring teams to establish and maintain KPIs, threshold frameworks, periodic reviews, breach analysis, and escalation of issues to support continued model fitness‑for‑use.
  • Act as the primary ECRM Subject Matter Expert (SME) for counterparty exposure modeling and PFE methodology, supporting pre‑trade exposure estimation, model calibrations, exposure reviews, and methodology‑related initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders across front office, risk management, product control, technology, risk analytics, and governance functions.
  • Assist in day‑to‑day issue identification and investigation, including counterparty credit risk system behavior, PFE model issues, limit excesses, and exposure anomalies; propose remediation options and enhancement opportunities as appropriate.
  • Partner with technology, analytics, and infrastructure teams to prioritize and implement model and system enhancements supporting counterparty risk management.
  • Prepare and review counterparty credit risk presentations and internal documentation, including policies, procedures, memoranda, and governance materials.
  • Execute assigned RCSA controls and ensure procedures and documentation remain accurate, complete, and current.
  • Perform ad‑hoc analysis, including stress testing and scenario analysis, to support risk management decision making, management inquiries, and emerging risk assessments.
  • Clearly communicate model behavior, limitations, and risk impacts to senior management and governance forums with sound judgment and executive presence.
  • Work closely with counterparty credit risk, market risk, underwriting, governance, and infrastructure teams to deliver strategic initiatives related to exposure modeling, methodology alignment, and risk framework enhancements.
  • Ensure that complex and non‑standard trade structures and documentation are appropriately supported by risk systems and PFE models.
