About The Position

The Lead Manufacturing Engineer role is primarily responsible for the identification and execution of projects related to the cleaning, stripping, and surface prep of components and supporting cell-wide projects and initiatives in Power Nozzle Repair. This person will work with cross-functional teams to drive standardized cleaning and stripping programs for services productivity and growth. The focus of this role is to develop and industrialize surface prep technology for the services network. This person will also help coach and lead other Cell support staff to keep shop operations running at an optimal level.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Physics
  • At least 2 additional years of experience related to chemical surface prep technologies of high temperature metals and superalloys or thermal barrier coating technology
  • Experience working in a development and manufacturing environment
  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience in Fluoride Ion Cleaning (FIC)
  • Prior experience in Heat Treat processes for superalloys
  • Master of Science or greater in the field of Chemistry is preferred
  • Sound chemistry and materials practical application background is preferred
  • Additional experience in manufacture or component repair for industrial gas turbines preferred
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is preferred
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes
  • Demonstrated ability to drive projects to completion
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to the cleaning and stripping process aspects for standardized global processes, cleaning and stripping related technology and productivity projects supporting the Greenville Power Nozzle Repair Cell.
  • Be the cell expert for Hydrogen Fluoride Cleaning processes for our Gas Power Manufacturing team located in Greenville SC.
  • Identify and lead projects to improve the HF cleaning process supporting the global team and network of facilities in Manufacturing, Engineering, and Services.
  • Assure all processes meet required specifications, considering the safety, quality, and productivity aspects for this technology
  • Support and coordinate with interfacing organizations such as sourcing, services, global engineering, MPE, design and systems engineering.
  • Support service programs, fulfillment, and NPI, for both CS and Transactional markets
  • Own execution of capital investments delivering desired outcomes on schedule & within budget
  • Communicate progress to all levels of the organization.
  • Support product qualifications as needed
  • Provide technical leadership and support for training of operators across areas of expertise.
  • Maintain and improve process documentation to ensure consistent quality
  • Develop work instructions and procedures to support operator training and process control
  • Work cross-functionally to support LEAN activities and new technology
  • Lead improvement efforts for equipment reliability, process controls, and ergonomic solutions
