Join our team as a Lead Maintenance Mechanic! This is an excellent opportunity for someone to learn from an experienced Environmental Services Manager. The role is responsible for light maintenance repair and cleaning tasks completed in a safe, professional manner. Special precautions are required when working in patient/resident care areas, including keeping tools out of reach of children. The position requires basic mechanical knowledge and competence in the use of hand tools, meters, and gauges. Ability to work from blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals is helpful. The Lead Maintenance Mechanic performs and oversees work quality inspections to ensure work orders are completed following acceptable engineering practices, functioning with safety, morale, and efficiency of the department and team in mind. The role requires the skills necessary to evaluate all types of building and equipment repairs and acts as a resource to staff and assists management with department personnel, including interviewing, hiring, disciplinary actions, and performance evaluations, as well as department operations. The Lead Maintenance Mechanic must be able to direct and supervise other maintenance mechanics and assists management in areas such as office procedures, work order delegation, files, engineering library, electronic drawings, machinery history, preventive maintenance, parts procurement and inventory, writing of operating procedures, and streamlining of systems. Good written and oral communication skills are essential, with the ability to explain conditions and situations accurately while troubleshooting. The position requires the ability to work all shifts and hours as scheduled and complies with all corporate and facility policies and dress code. The role involves working independently with minimal supervision and requires knowledge of federal, state, and local codes, specifications, and ordinances. Depending on facility size, additional duties may include installation and maintenance of mechanical and stationary systems, including boiler operations, to ensure a safe and efficient environment; maintaining campus grounds and performing other outside maintenance duties; performing general duties such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, HVAC, and bed repair and maintenance. May require on-call duties as needed or as directed by the department.

Requirements

  • Must take extra precautions when working in patient/resident care areas and specifically, keep tools out of reach of children.
  • Must possess basic mechanical knowledge, and show competence in the use of hand tools, meters, measuring devices and gauges.
  • Ability to work from blueprints, schematics and technical manuals helpful.
  • Must possess the skills necessary to perform evaluations of all types of building and equipment repairs.
  • Good written and oral communications skills are essential.
  • Ability to work all shifts and hours as scheduled.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must have knowledge of federal, state, and local codes, specifications, and ordinances.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Trade school or vocational school preferred.
  • Five years of experience in building systems preferred.
  • When applicable, may need a valid driver's license.
  • If valid driver's license is required, must maintain a good driving record.
