About The Position

The Lead Machinist works as part of the machine shop team, operating conversational and manual machinery and helping ensure equipment operates properly. The role also assists with scheduling machine time and personnel, maintaining stock levels, and keeping tooling available. Responsibilities include programming and running conversational CNC lathes and mills with Proto Trak controls, setting up and operating a variety of machines, and performing equipment repair, adjustments, and maintenance. The position fabricates new and replacement parts for facility machinery and supports work-order scheduling and continuity.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 5 years of machinist experience.
• Knowledge of tools, materials, methods, and standard practices of the machinist trade.
• Ability to read blueprints and maintain precision tolerances when building tooling and machine parts.
• Knowledge of general tool-room equipment, including lathes, surface grinders, mills, hones, saws, plunge-style EDMs, heat-treat ovens, hydraulic presses, drill presses, pedestal grinders, and belt sanders.
• Ability to learn job-related material primarily through oral instruction and observation, mainly in an on-the-job training setting.
• Ability to stay organized and solve problems.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.

Responsibilities

• Program and operate conversational CNC lathes and mills using Proto Trak controls.
• Ensure continuous, smooth operation of equipment and machines, including setup, repair, adjustment, and maintenance.
• Set up and operate a variety of machines, mounting holding fixtures and cutters.
• Measure work using precision tools such as micrometers and indicators.
• Fabricate replacement and new parts for facility machinery.
• Assist with scheduling machine time and prioritizing work orders.
• Assist with maintaining stock levels and ordering stock to support work orders.
• Assist with machinist vacation and on-call activities.
