About The Position

This role is responsible for ensuring safe, quality production by following established work instructions and company procedures. The Lead Machinist will set up various CNC equipment, interpret blueprints, perform advanced maintenance, and lead a team of machinists. This position requires a strong understanding of production flow, the ability to detect and correct equipment malfunctions, and excellent communication skills to collaborate with other departments.

Requirements

  • Follow established assembly procedures to ensure quality production.
  • Previous documented leadership/supervisory experience in machine or fab shop >than 15 employees.
  • 8-10 + years of experience in a machining environment beyond post-secondary or trade school education.
  • Full fluency in running and setting up multiple types of equipment such as Swiss tool machines and twin spindle lathes and multi axis VMC’s.
  • Full fluency in running and setting up pallet changers and horizontal mills.
  • Mastery of blueprint interpretation and title block GD&T.
  • Ability to detect malfunctions in equipment and non-spec parts and provide corrections.
  • Ability to lead discussions with other departments, including status and updates of the machining group.
  • Follow safety procedures and guidelines in the assembly process.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Consistently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Consistently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to sit; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Nice To Haves

  • Certificate in machine shop technology or technology/machinist - preferred associate degree or journeyman’s card.

Responsibilities

  • Follow established work instructions and company procedures to ensure safe, quality production.
  • Set up tool registers, mills, lathes, drills, Bridgeport, switches, offsets and program CNC computerized equipment for defined runs with limited supervision or assistance.
  • Run and set up multiple types of equipment such as Swiss tool machines, twin spindle lathes, and multi-axis VMC’s.
  • Run and set up pallet changers and horizontal mills.
  • Perform advanced and routine machinery maintenance.
  • Run/visual tests on broken or worn parts while keeping inventory records of machine replacement parts.
  • Understand flow of production and how their team’s performance affects plant metrics and customers.
  • Detect malfunctions in equipment and non-spec parts and provide corrections.
  • Interpret blueprints and title block GD&T.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using mathematics and instruments such as calipers, gauges, indicators, micrometers, and other hand tools.
  • Lead discussions with other departments, including status and updates of the machining group.
  • Follow safety procedures and guidelines in the assembly process.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Direct work assignment and leadership for assigned team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.
