About The Position

Operation Kindness is seeking a Lead Lifesaving Care Tech to join their team at the HUB Location. Operation Kindness is a pioneer in Texas for assisting animals in need of veterinary care, companionship, and a home. They provide a fun and rewarding work environment with excellent benefits. Both weekend days and holiday availability is typically required. Hourly employees receive time and a half pay if scheduled to work on 10 company-designated holidays.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent or equivalent relevant work experience
  • One year of part-time or full-time work experience
  • Minimum 3 years Animal Care experience or 2 Years Animal Care experience within OPK
  • Minimum 2 years Veterinary assistant experience
  • Previous veterinary or shelter is experience a plus
  • Previous leadership experience a plus
  • A background check and drug screen is part of the hiring process at Operation Kindness.

Responsibilities

  • Report suspicion of animal abuse or neglect to the Lifesaving Partnerships Hub Manager immediately.
  • Report any unsafe working conditions to the Lifesaving Partnerships Hub Manager immediately.
  • Maintains client, donor, and staff confidentiality at all times.
  • Follow Standard Precautions and other safety regulations at all times.
  • Complete all necessary and requested training in a timely manner in accordance with Operation Kindness policy.
  • Attend staff meetings, as required.
  • Responsible for leading the team to accomplish the overall department goals of kennel and serve as leadership by supporting the goals of the Lifesaving Partnerships Hub Manager.
  • Begins each day leading LCT Team Rounds on crucial updates, assign daily tasks, and ensure everyone is in their workspaces on time.
  • Allocates or adjusts daily room assignments to staff at the beginning of each shift, ensuring to rotate staff in all kennel areas.
  • Coordinates daily side work duties to staff at the beginning of each shift, ensuring to rotate staff in all areas.
  • Assist the team with completing assignments from Human Resources or any other departments within Operation Kindness.
  • Ensures all animal rooms, daily assignments, and weekly/monthly tasks are complete on time.
  • Regularly walking through all kennel areas including daily tasks are being completed as assigned.
  • Communicates with other departments.
  • Communicates with employees throughout the day and before they leave.
  • Communicate via Slack with staff and other departments.
  • Reports/documents performance, successes, and concerns of LCTs (attendance, policy violations, workplace, conflict, etc.).
  • Coaches and encourages LCTs
  • Provides and oversee training to LCTs.
  • Assists in monitoring inventory of supplies alerting management to needs.
  • Assists in interviewing new hires.
  • Maintains a high quality of work.
  • Provides introduction training, direction, and supervision to volunteers.
  • Completes all LCT and LCT IT tasks, as listed below
  • Clean and sanitize all animal enclosures and the kennel areas per our Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness throughout the day by removing messes in a timely manner.
  • On a weekly rotation, deep clean to sanitize kennel areas top to bottom.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of other spaces in the kennel areas, as well as storage spaces, and common use spaces.
  • Clean, maintain, and remove waste from outside play yards and surrounding areas.
  • Clean, sanitize, and organize outside storage area for portable animal crates.
  • Clean other shelter areas and/or equipment as requested or assigned.
  • Clean and sanitize all food, water bowls, and toys.
  • Wash, fold, and restock laundry.
  • Feed all animals in our care at least twice daily according to the color-coded measuring system.
  • Ensure that all animals always have access to fresh, clean water.
  • Be aware of special/prescription diets, special feeding instructions, and follow the directions laid out for them.
  • Administered necessary medications, twice daily.
  • Provide daily, basic medical care needs, including the following: Vaccines, Medications, Preventatives, Blood Draws and Tests, Fecal Testing
  • Report any unusual or sickly behavior of any animal at the Hub exhibits.
  • Provide incoming animals with appropriate and required vaccines upon intake.
  • Complete detailed intake exam evaluations of each transport animal, including: Reviewing and entering medical history, Administering vaccines, Giving medications, Administering preventative, A physical examination, Drawing and testing blood, Collecting and evaluating fecal matter, Weighing and Aging, Entering the evaluation into PetPoint, Scheduling future vaccines, tasks, and tests
  • Walk and exercise all dogs regularly throughout the day.
  • Assist team members with completing daily playgroups per our Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Complete movement of animals from one kennel to another as needed or assigned.
  • Ensure that all animals are properly identified and that all cages and kennels have cage cards.
  • Assist in loading/unloading transport animals.
  • When closing for the day, perform security checks, ensuring that all animals are secure, clean, not in stress, and properly bedded down.
  • Make sure necessary doors are closed and lights are out.
  • Additional, relevant tasks as assigned by the Lifesaving Partnerships Hub Manager.
