About The Position

The Lead Lifeguard is responsible for constant watch over a public swimming pool facility to enforce regulations and prevent accidents, assists swimmers in distress, and provides emergency and routine first aid. Takes the leadership role in customer service and emergency situations; and oversees and motivates the Lifeguards on duty.

Requirements

  • Has sound judgment. Can decipher between life threatening and non-life threatening emergencies.
  • Ability to perform lifeguarding procedures as stated by the American Red Cross.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR and First Aid required.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of lifeguard experience, preferred.
  • American Red Cross WSI certification, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains constant watch over patrons in assigned areas and assists patrons in distress.
  • Enforces rules and regulations of programs and facilities as mandated by MRD policies including in and around the pool, deck, and locker rooms.
  • Administers first aid as necessary.
  • Performs regular safety checks and keeps first aid supplies stocked.
  • Accurately completes daily operation forms including maintenance request forms, chemical testing, cleaning checklists, and operation reports.
  • Provides a safe and clean environment with adequate supervision by implementing guidelines from MRD and department policies and procedures manuals.
  • Provides courteous and professional service to all program participants, facility users, MRD personnel and the public.
  • Arrives on time and in proper attire/appearance as required by MRD guidelines.
  • Accountable for all participants during working hours.
  • Plans, leads and monitors lifeguards and swim assistants in the completion of daily schedule, zones of coverage, scanning and lifeguard rotation.
  • Monitors behavior of lifeguards, swim assistants, and participants.
  • Conducts set up and clean-up of facility and equipment
  • Responsible for either the opening, mid, or closing duties; as it relates to shift.
  • Attends and participates at staff meetings and trainings including monthly in-service trainings, planned or random skills tests, and in-pool assessments.
  • Performs emergency procedures as needed; performs as the lead on duty in emergency situations.
  • Completes appropriate reports and forms as necessary.
  • Performs general maintenance, including removing trash from the swimming pool, deck, locker rooms, floors, walls, storage, office, and other areas of the department.
  • Performs daily slide inspections, facility inspections, and regular chemical checks; corrects and/or reports any potentially unsafe conditions to direct supervisor on duty.
  • Conducts work tasks safely and in compliance with department safety standards and MRD policies and procedures.
  • Communicates with participants and the public; discusses concerns and participation issues and provides solutions when appropriate.
  • May prepare and conduct assigned portions of staff meetings and trainings for lifeguards and swim aides.
