Lead Licensed Veterinary Technician Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Lead Licenced Veterinary Technician who thrives in a busy veterinary hospital and is ready to help develop and strengthen our technical team. This is not an entry-level leadership position. The ideal candidate has significant clinical experience, has worked through high-volume days, understands how to prioritize competing patient needs, and can confidently lead a team without becoming overwhelmed when the schedule gets busy. We need a leader who can work alongside the team, teach, delegate, problem-solve, and hold people accountable while maintaining excellent patient care.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of veterinary clinical experience preferred.
  • Previous lead, supervisory, or team leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Licensed Veterinary Technician with extensive clinical and leadership experience that is licensed in the state of Virginia.
  • Strong knowledge of anesthesia, surgery, dentistry, laboratory procedures, pharmacy, radiology, outpatient care, and veterinary medical terminology.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong delegation, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience training and developing veterinary support staff.
  • Comfortable providing constructive feedback and holding team members accountable.
  • Able to remain organized and solution-focused during high-volume days.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and direction to technicians and veterinary assistants.
  • Coordinate workflow for appointments, technician appointments, procedures, treatments, and hospitalized patients.
  • Assist with surgery, anesthesia, dentistry, laboratory procedures, radiology, treatments, and patient care.
  • Support and help grow the hospital’s surgery, dentistry, and technician appointment services.
  • Train, mentor, and develop technicians and veterinary assistants.
  • Identify skill gaps and create opportunities for hands-on training.
  • Delegate responsibilities appropriately based on team members’ skill levels.
  • Maintain high standards for patient care, efficiency, cleanliness, communication, and medical documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with veterinarians and hospital leadership to improve workflow and patient care.
  • Help establish consistent clinical protocols and expectations.
  • Address workflow or performance concerns constructively and bring potential solutions to leadership.
  • Step into patient care when the team needs additional support.
  • Help foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, growth, and continuous learning.
