About The Position

Under general supervision, performs library work of moderate difficulty in the Youth & Teen Services division of the library and acts as lead worker for some library staff. This position has department specific responsibility. Hours may vary (Monday – Saturday) depending on the needs of the Library District. Assists with managing Youth Services division including planning and implementation of children’s programs; may be the person in charge on nights and/or weekends at the Main Library; supervises, trains, and coordinates the functions of the assigned staff; provides training, instruction, and orientation to new employees; determines work schedules and timesheets; submits budget requests and administers operational supplies for Youth Services division; collects, tracks, and generates reports for the Youth program statistics; responsible in shelving books and materials; assists patrons with their needs; responds to complaints; organizes and conducts library programs, activities, and tours; may promote public library services to the local community; develops, conducts and records virtual programming (i.e. story time, crafts, robotics, STEAM programming and emerging technology.); may be assigned to work in other library branches and divisions; maintains automated and manual files; prepares, schedules, reports and correspondence; plans, develops, and implement programs for Youth and provide computer classes, book discussion groups, and other library programs; responsible for updating the monthly calendar online and on paper; commutes to other branches for programs and provides outreach at different locations; creates and maintains monthly themed displays; coordinates wide-scale projects i.e. Cover to Cover Reading Program and Summer Reading Programs; participates in meetings and activities with outside agencies and organizations; regular and reliable attendance is required; performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Library Science or closely related field; and three years working in a library; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Requires successful completion of a background check
  • Must possess and maintain valid Arizona driver’s license
  • Knowledge of Yuma County and Department policies and procedures and functions
  • Knowledge of techniques of library operations
  • Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System
  • Knowledge of children’s services as practiced in public libraries
  • Knowledge of books and authors
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision
  • Skill in assigning and reviewing work performance of others
  • Skill in using office machines, and automated system
  • Skill in business English, spelling and arithmetic
  • Skill in providing effective customer-oriented service
  • Skill in handling irate patrons and tense situations
