About The Position

The Lead Landfill Operator is responsible for safely operating machinery and equipment at a recycling facility, landfill, or transfer station. The position coordinates the daily activities of heavy or stationary equipment operators and ensures work and processes comply with safety regulations and federal and state requirements. The operator inspects, operates, and monitors equipment; coordinates work to meet production schedules; directs and trains employees; and supports efficient facility operations.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience in equipment operation.
• Valid training certificates and applicable licenses for equipment operation, as required.
• One year of prior supervisory or lead operator experience working at sites regulated by OSHA.
• Experience with equipment and tool management and facility maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Inspect required equipment at the start of each shift and at each start-up during the shift, and accurately record inspection data on daily forms.
• Complete Equipment Condition Reports and report necessary repairs to a supervisor and/or maintenance shop.
• Safely and efficiently operate equipment such as forklifts, scrapers, motor graders, sweepers, balers, excavators, bulldozers, front-end loaders, and other facility equipment.
• Monitor equipment readiness, perform basic troubleshooting, and report more complex mechanical issues to maintenance staff.
• Review daily production schedules, estimate operator hours required for assignments, and establish or adjust work procedures to meet schedules.
• Recommend improvements to production methods, equipment performance, quality, equipment use, workspace, and crew efficiency.
• Direct employees, interpret company policies and work instructions as needed, assign duties, coordinate activities with supervisors or managers, and train or assist in training new employees.
• Ensure the shop is clean, serviced, and stored at the end of each shift.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.
