The Lead Laboratory Assistant/Phlebotomist supports lab operations by processing and handling patient specimens for diagnostic testing in an accurate and timely manner and following established protocols. The Lead Laboratory Assistant/Phlebotomist is responsible for receiving, centrifuging, storing, and transporting/distributing samples according to protocol in order to maintain sample integrity. Lead Laboratory Assistant/Phlebotomist provides customer service in all interactions with patients, physician and nursing personnel when providing instruction and assistance regarding laboratory testing results. May perform basic laboratory techniques and or testing congruent with CLIA requirements; and/or phlebotomy and collect blood specimens via venipuncture or other micro- technique as required by local needs. Lead Laboratory Assistant/Phlebotomists are additionally responsible for training/retraining; assisting the supervisor with administrative needs and monitoring/improving daily operations as directed; and may be required to oversee, coordinate, and direct the activities of other laboratory assistants in the supervisor's absence.
