About The Position

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Java Engineer to join the Spread Technology team in Fixed Income, supporting asset classes such as Structured Products, Credit, and Municipal Bonds. This role is pivotal to the success of strategic initiatives Front Office Sales and Trading applications, and is designed for engineers who thrive in high-performance, front-to-back delivery environments. You will lead the design and development of low-latency Micro UIs and robust backend services, contributing to pricing and risk workflows. The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical leadership, deep domain knowledge in capital markets, and a passion for building scalable, resilient software solutions using modern technologies such as Angular, Java, Spring, Kafka, and Apache Ignite.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Specialty Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 3+ years of Capital Markets Fixed Income domain
  • 3+ years of Bond Pricing, Bond Risk, Bond PnL, and Position Management
  • 3+ years of experience in high-performance programming using Java or Python
  • 3+ years of experience in full stack development using Angular/Typescript for front-end and Java with Spring Framework for back-end
  • 3+ years of experience with Apache Kafka for messaging and stream processing

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using OpenShift / Kubernetes container platforms
  • Experience designing and delivering cloud-native, microservices-oriented solutions at enterprise scale in financial services or regulated sectors
  • Experience with test automation using tools such as Selenium.
  • Strong understanding of performance and stress testing web UIs using Chrome DevTools
  • 5+ years of experience with Apache Kafka for messaging and stream processing
  • 5+ years of experience with Apache Ignite for in-memory computing.
  • 5+ years of experience with build tools such as Maven or Gradle
  • 5+ years of experience with code quality tools like SonarQube
  • 5+ years of experience as a Full Stack Developer with strong understanding of front-end and back-end development
  • 5+ years of experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Splunk, Grafana, AppDynamics, New Relic, Elastic, or Open Telemetry

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex initiatives on selected domains
  • Ensure systems are monitored to increase operational efficiency and managed to mitigate risk
  • Define opportunities to maximize resource utilization and improve processes while reducing cost
  • Lead, design, develop, test and implement applications and system components, tools and utilities, models, simulation, and analytics to manage complex business functions using sophisticated technologies
  • Resolve coding, testing and escalated platform issues of a technically challenging nature
  • Lead team to ensure compliance and risk management requirements for supported area are met and work with other stakeholders to implement key risk initiatives
  • Mentor less experienced software engineers
  • Collaborate and influence all levels of professionals including managers
  • Lead team to achieve objectives
  • Design low latency eTrading, pricing, and risk applications for Fixed Income asset classes such as Structured Products, Credit, and Municipal Bonds
  • Implement low-latency, HTTP and WebSocket-based real-time micro UIs using JavaScript/Typescript, Angular, AgGrid, and other UI libraries
  • Develop backend services using Java, Spring Framework, Kafka, and Ignite
  • Utilize build tools such as Maven or Gradle and ensure code quality using SonarQube.
  • Provide technical support and resolve issues related to supported applications
  • Create test data and conduct interface and unit tests.
  • Design, code, test, debug, and document programs using Agile development practices
  • Partner with production support and platform engineering teams effectively
