About The Position

The Lead Worker – Janitor provides support, assistance, and guidance to individuals with significant disabilities to help develop work skills, while assisting with the direction, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of cleaning crews. This position supports the Janitorial Supervisor in executing janitorial plans, performs janitorial tasks in accordance with contract guidelines, and provides ongoing training and support to staff on standard operating procedures and safe operation of equipment, supporting growth and upward mobility within Didlake’s organization. This position is responsible for assisting with the overall direction, coordination, evaluation, and supervision of cleaning crews in the maintenance of the contract.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of recent experience in commercial custodial or maintenance services.
  • Ability to successfully obtain and maintain required security clearance/background check.
  • Knowledge of commercial custodial equipment, cleaning products, and related chemicals.
  • Ability to safely operate custodial and snow-removal equipment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to understand instructions and communicate effectively with employees and customers.
  • Ability to train, coach, and motivate staff while reinforcing safe work practices and operating procedures.
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and positively with employees with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated initiative, adaptability, reliability, flexibility, and commitment to teamwork.
  • Strong commitment to quality service, safety, and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Organize, direct, supervise, and evaluate custodial staff to ensure work is completed according to contract requirements and quality standards.
  • Assign daily tasks and distribute supplies and equipment to team members.
  • Inspect completed work and provide coaching and corrective guidance as needed.
  • Lead by example through dependability, professionalism, strong work ethic, and positive business conduct.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment focused on quality service and customer satisfaction.
  • Oversee and support staff in performing cleaning tasks such as cleaning hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevator banks, stairways, locker rooms, and other assigned areas.
  • Oversee and support staff in performing tasks such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and waxing floors using manual and powered equipment.
  • Oversee and support staff in performing tasks such as polishing fixtures and metalwork.
  • Oversee and support staff in performing tasks such as washing windows, door panels, and sills.
  • Oversee and support staff in emptying waste receptacles and removing trash.
  • Oversee and support staff in replenishing restroom and janitorial supplies.
  • Train employees on custodial procedures, safety practices, and proper use of equipment and supplies.
  • Reinforce standard operating procedures and quality expectations.
  • Support employees by addressing concerns, resolving issues, and escalating matters to management when appropriate.
  • Operate and oversee the safe use of custodial and grounds equipment, including scrubbers, vacuums, blowers, snow blowers, EZ-Go vehicles, and similar equipment.
  • Operate power equipment such as two-stage snow blowers and John Deere skid-loader/snowplow equipment when required.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Act as a responsible steward of company and government resources.
  • Report to work as required during weather-related events.
  • Remove snow and ice from walkways, entrances, and loading dock ramps.
  • Apply snow and ice melting materials to maintain safe access to facilities.
  • Complete required documentation, reports, and records accurately and timely.
  • Maintain training certifications and complete all required Didlake training programs.
