About The Position

Reporting to the Director, Project Services, the Lead, IT systems is responsible for ensuring the reliable delivery of IT services across Vancouver, Smithers, and Galore Creek Camp. The Lead, IT systems provides guidance and direction to GCMC’s MSP and owns Galore Creek’s technology roadmap from planning through to execution, while maintaining service levels for GCMC’s end-users. The successful candidate possesses strong troubleshooting skills and demonstrates accountability, customer service, and the ability to work independently. This role is based in Vancouver; however, occasional travel will be required to the remote mining environment in the BC interior. Located in Tahltan Territory in Northwestern British Columbia, Galore Creek is one of the world’s largest undeveloped copper-gold-silver deposits. Galore Creek Mining Corporation (GCMC) is a 50:50 partnership between Newmont Corporation (Newmont) and Teck Resources Limited (Teck), committed to advancing the asset towards a development decision with meaningful input and support from the Tahltan Nation and BC regulators. Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Information Technology or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years' experience in IT Operations
  • Experience with Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Intune and Windows 11.
  • Advance networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN).
  • Experience managing Service Providers
  • Experience supporting mining, industrial or remote environments.
  • Strong communication, organizational and customer service skills.
  • Ability to travel to site as required.

Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, lead by example and foster a proactive safety and sustainability culture based on the common values of health, safety, environment, and communities shared by the asset owners (Teck and Newmont).
  • Keep GCMC management apprised on critical IT issues, risks, and incidents related to GCMC technology, data, and cybersecurity
  • Lead MSP onboarding process.
  • Manage MSP, who will be providing Level 1 and Level 2 technical support to the GCMC team
  • Ensure incidents and requests are documented within the ITSM platform.
  • Responsible for meeting agreed service levels and communicating proactively with users.
  • Escalate complex issues to GCMC Management as appropriate.
  • Act as the primary operational liaison between GCMC and the MSP.
  • Coordinate incidents, requests and changes with the MSP.
  • Monitor ticket progress and SLA performance.
  • Validate completed work before ticket closure.
  • Participate in operational review meetings and identify service improvements.
  • Coordinate planned maintenance and user communications.
  • Ensure Microsoft Entra ID user administration including onboarding, offboarding, group management and MFA.
  • Support Microsoft 365 licensing and basic administration.
  • Assist with SharePoint Online, Teams and Exchange Online administration.
  • Deploy and maintain Windows Microsoft Intune.
  • Support Microsoft Defender and endpoint security technologies.
  • Maintain device compliance and hardware lifecycle.
  • Assist with vulnerability remediation and cybersecurity incident response.
  • Provide hands-on support during site visits and seasonal mobilization.
  • Coordinate onsite work performed by MSP engineers and third-party vendors.
  • Develop LAN, Wi-Fi, Teams Rooms and meeting room technology with MSP.
  • Support telecommunications and remote connectivity.
  • Maintain accurate IT asset inventory and lifecycle records.
  • Coordinate procurement, receiving, deployment and disposal of IT equipment.
  • Manage warranty repairs and equipment returns.
  • Coordinate shipments to remote locations.
  • Maintain technical documentation and knowledge base articles.
  • Document operational procedures and standard work instructions.
  • Identify recurring issues and recommend process improvements.
  • Support IT projects and change management initiatives.
