About The Position

Three Trails Behavioral Hospital in Independence, MO is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Lead Intake and Assessment Clinician (LPC, LCSW, or LMFT) to join their team. This role plays a key leadership position in managing the patient admission process, ensuring timely and accurate clinical assessments, and supporting the intake team. The position combines direct clinical assessment responsibilities with oversight of intake workflows, staff support, and quality assurance in a fast-paced behavioral health setting. Three Trails Behavioral Hospital will serve children and adolescents, adults and seniors with innovative and evidence-based inpatient behavioral healthcare focused on individual needs and comfort. The facility is expected to open in the second half of 2026 and will create more than 200 new, full-time jobs. It will be located at the intersection of I-70 and Little Blue Parkway, adjacent to the Children’s Mercy Hospital Outpatient Clinics, and will feature 120 licensed beds spanning more than 88,000 square feet, including an activity yard and gym.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field required
  • Active, unrestricted licensure (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or equivalent) required
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of behavioral health clinical experience
  • Strong crisis assessment and risk evaluation skills
  • Knowledge of level of care criteria (e.g., ASAM, DSM-5)
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and decision-making abilities
  • Experience with EHR systems and clinical documentation standards
  • Ability to work evenings and one weekend evening

Nice To Haves

  • Intake/admissions experience preferred
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, or team lead experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments to determine appropriate level of care
  • Lead intake and admission processes, ensuring efficient patient flow and positive patient experience
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to Intake & Assessment Clinicians
  • Review assessments for quality, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory standards
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, nursing, and referral sources to coordinate admissions
  • Serve as a clinical resource for complex or high-risk cases, including crisis situations
  • Monitor and improve key intake metrics (response times, conversion rates, documentation accuracy)
  • Ensure compliance with EMTALA, HIPAA, Joint Commission, and state regulations
  • Assist with staff scheduling, onboarding, and performance feedback (as assigned)
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and audits
