About The Position

Kent is seeking a Lead Instrumentation Engineer in Baytown, TX to be an integrated part of the Project Management Consultancy (PMC) team managing projects on behalf of Kent and our Client. The Engineer will support all phases of the projects to suit the needs and requirements of Kent as well as our client.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation Engineering.
  • Minimum 15 years’ relevant experience.
  • Have worked for at least 5 years in similar positions for an international company.
  • Work in office and site-based environments.
  • Capable of using appropriate software.
  • Excellent interpersonal and analytical attributes.
  • Able to effectively communicate technical issues to peers and line manager (written and verbal).
  • Capability of verifying and handling information and producing instructions and guidance.
  • Capability in using latest engineering knowledge and understanding to apply technical and practical skills.
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of technical requirements in own field and level.
  • Design, development, checking and solving engineering problems.
  • Analyzing, integrating and interpreting results.
  • Ownership of responsibility for work by self and team.
  • Capability in management and leadership of own team.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to hold presentations and keep audience interested.
  • Professional commitment in following appropriate code of professional conduct, recognizing obligations to society, the profession and the environment.
  • Capability of planning, implementing and controlling.
  • Capabilities in estimating and forecasting.
  • Read, write, and speak fluent English, especially as required to function effectively within a project team and to communicate with the project management, contractors, and sub contractors.

Responsibilities

  • Be a team leader, manage, and add value to the assigned project.
  • Manage Coordination/Communication with other disciplines, Contractor and Client.
  • Review Contractor’s deliverables as required and ensure all Contractor’s engineering and design work performed meets quality, cost and schedule requirements.
  • Ensure all Contractor’s design work is safe and carried out in a safe manner.
  • Ensure all Contractor’s design work conforms to the codes and standards used by the Client or to agreed industry standards.
  • If required, perform designing/engineering work/deliverables as part of the team.
  • Ability to interpret Client specifications.
  • Consult Quality Assurance with any quality issues, ensuring compliance with ISO Quality procedures, Project Quality Plan and Design Integrity processes and procedures.
  • Identifying issues and problems, developing appropriate solutions, advising Client, and asking for assistance when required.
  • If required, assist, and support junior personnel within the team.
  • If required, provide support during fabrication, site construction, and commissioning activities.
  • Identifies and resolves discrepancies and divergences from original proposal / contract by raising technical queries with projects / client.
  • Keep up to date with the latest developments and technical innovations in Instrumentation & Controls Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of Instrumentation & Control deliverables such as Index & IO List, Datasheets, Specifications, Requisitions, Installation and Hookup Drawings, P&IDs, Loop Drawings, Wiring Diagrams, Cable Schedules, Instrument Location Layouts, System Block Diagram, etc.
  • Understanding of Instrumentation Calculation/Selection, such as Control Valves, Flowmeters, Thermowells, Cables.
  • Experience in Control Systems like PLCs, DCS, ESD, F&G, MMS, and prepare engineering documents like IO List, Logic Diagrams, Loop Drawings, C&E diagrams, Narratives.
  • As required, participate in site surveys, review Contractor’s site survey reports and ensure it is as per actual site conditions.
  • Perform Contractors and/or Vendors Technical Bid Evaluations, as required.
  • Being able to work with multiple and concurrently small and medium projects.
  • Working knowledge of software like Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI), AVEVA and AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge (design/implementation) of Communication Networks is a plus.
  • Competent use of relevant software such as MS Office Suite.

These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization.
