About The Position

College of The Albemarle (COA), located in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, is seeking a Lead Instructor for its College and Career Readiness (CCR) programs. This role is responsible for providing learning experiences, facilitating the learning process, advising students, and engaging in professional development activities for Adult High School (AHS), High School Equivalency (HSE), and other Adult Basic Education programs. The Lead Instructor will also collaborate with Student Development to advise curriculum students and work with the Coordinator, Pathways and Testing, and designated CCR programs. This position involves performing technical and instructional duties, planning with CCR department staff, and assisting CCR faculty with program evaluation, retention efforts, and instructional support to ensure program quality. The Lead Instructor reports to the Director, College and Career Readiness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university with major course work in education or a related field.
  • Five years of increasingly responsible experience in education, including two years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.
  • Two years of instructional technology.
  • Knowledge of adult education assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains records and develops statistical reports concerning new and ongoing classes and program effectiveness; maintains and files analytical records.
  • Maintains student attendance records for all participants.
  • Organizes and schedules classes.
  • Maintains frequent oral and written close communication ties with Director, CCR.
  • Supervises maintenance of software resources.
  • Manages the administrative needs of the software such as allocating seats, ordering seats, advises supervisor of software needs, recommends changes of software usage and prepares requisitions.
  • Maintains a list of all licenses, locations, levels of usage and other pertinent information.
  • Maintains knowledge of emerging software or upgrading packages and recommends decision to the Director.
  • Stays abreast of new developments and changes in related fields; participates in staff development programs, workshops, seminars and other programs as appropriate.
  • Implements the Advisement and Retention Plan for students, using measurable strategies in accordance with established CCR Program procedures.
  • Administers, proctors, or coordinates appropriate testing for College and Career students.
  • Makes regular assessments of the involvement and progress of current students.
  • Maintains continuous contact with ongoing students to monitor progress and students who may have difficulty attending class and maintaining hours.
  • Assists with transitioning students from CCR programs into post-secondary and continuing opportunities.
  • Makes referrals as necessary to special programs and agencies that are available to aid student progress (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), Human Resource Development (HRD), Student Success and Enrollment Management (SSEM), etc.).
  • Creates lesson plans for instruction of students in area taught.
  • Prepares, teaches and evaluates assigned instructional courses.
  • Provides instruction to adult students, evaluate needs; corrects work and assigns tasks.
  • Participates in regular North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) training sessions.
  • Works with the Coordinators and Director to recommend additions, changes and deletions to keep program area current.
  • Plans, reviews and participates in the work of staff responsible for providing HSE instruction and other related services within the department.
  • Ensures record keeping is accurate, current and meets all compliance requirements.
  • Works with the coordinators and Director on staff training.
  • Organizes educational materials for use in the CCR Program.
  • Consults with distance education personnel.
  • Solicits and coordinates speakers for special program events and classes.
  • Advises participants regarding CCR programs; provides placement, orientation, retention and transition advisement.
  • Assists with orientation and observation of new instructors.
  • Provides ongoing training for current instructors.
  • Leads curriculum development, updates and evaluation processes; participates in materials identification activities.
  • Selects and orders equipment and materials with coordinators and Director.
  • Assist with new curriculum development for all CCR programs.
  • Develops survey instruments; conducts surveys of program participants to determine participant needs; interprets and records survey results; implements program changes in response to results.
  • Instructs CCR classes.
  • Oversees planning of lessons and curriculum based on the learning needs to culturally diverse and multi-skill level students in preparation for successful program completion.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as needed.
  • Participates on College and CCR education program committees and in other institutional activities and programs, attends agency meetings.
  • Participates on other community/state agency boards and committees.
  • Works as an integral member of the division's education team.
