About The Position

The Goddard School® in Alexandria (Old Town) is seeking a professional, dependable, and nurturing Lead Teacher for its Infant/Toddler program. This is a role within a premium early childhood school focused on strong curriculum, consistent routines, and exceptional parent communication. The position offers a structured, professional environment with high standards and dedicated support from Program Managers who are actively involved in classrooms. The role emphasizes classroom leadership, curriculum implementation, child development, and strong parent communication, while adhering to all licensing, health, and safety standards.

Requirements

Experience with infants or toddlers in a licensed childcare setting
Strong reliability (attendance and punctuality are non-negotiable)
Ability to manage a classroom independently
Comfortable with daily parent communication
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Frequent bending, sitting, and active engagement

Nice To Haves

CDA or coursework in Early Childhood Education
1–3 years of experience
Familiarity with Virginia licensing

Responsibilities

Lead an Infant/Toddler classroom with full ownership of routines, safety, and environment
Create a calm, nurturing, and structured classroom culture
Maintain strong classroom management using positive guidance
Implement developmentally appropriate activities aligned with our curriculum
Observe and document developmental milestones
Individualize care and learning based on each child
Build strong, professional relationships with families
Provide consistent daily updates
Handle parent questions confidently and professionally
Follow all licensing, health, and safety standards
Maintain a clean, organized classroom at all times
Provide active supervision
